Hi,

My first post on thse forums so please excuse my lack of knowledge on all things Hi-Fi.

I have been tasked with getting a new hifi for a small private gym (single room of 150 square metres).
I don't speak the lingo so terms like OHMS and Impedence go over my head.
I do understand DAB, USB and Bluetooth.
Our budget is £200.

The Panasonic SC-PM602EB-K seems to tick all the boxes (DAB, USB, PLay & Charge, Bluetooth).

Will this system be adequate?
Will we be to replace the supplied speakers with the 100w ones we already have?

Thanks in advance.

I'd be looking to add another 0 on to your budget to provide something decent enough to adequately fill a room that size with decent sound.

Firstly you could look at a simple portable type PA system, something like this...

http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/QTX-QX12PA-Portable-PA-System-with-Bluetooth/1160

It comes with mics if you want to run instructor lead classes or will play music via Bluetooth or a built in media player, check around, there are loads of similar setups to choose from.

If you want something that is even vaguely hi-fi, you will need a much bigger budget, given the room size.

Thanks for the replies!

It is literally a converted barn with nothing but free weights and machines.
It's not the sort of place that will ever host classes.

Its more background music but with a bit of punch. Maybe with a 100w speaker at each end.

The power is determined by the amplifier in the main unit, about 10 watts per channel by normal hi-fi standards. That the speakers can handle 100 watts is irrelevant as you only have around 10 (per channel). Given the room size you will not get much in the way of punch, its more likely to sound like a transistor radio in a large room.

If you want to keep with in budget, you have few options.

A touch overbudget at £280 but it should fill your room well and looks like reasonable quality gear .

They are based in Thurrock Essex.

It is not far from where I live and I have seen their unit on the industrial estate but have never been inside .

They seem to be a reputable company .

There is a good selection of cheap active speakers that are worth a look as well .

Quite possibly, but given the OP's budget it is about the best he will find, it should be adequate for the job and it comes with a fair returns policy also a physical premises should the need arise for a visit .

Just because the budget is limited to £200, there's no reason to buy lightweight plasticky rubbish. Might as well buy something that would sound good as a main hi-fi system.

Something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Sansui-SP-7300-Floor-Standing-Speakers-/152195107752?hash=item236f890ba8:g:yKoAAOSwayZXjw5C

or this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Goodmans-Dimension-8-Loudspeakers-Sound-amazing-/291834262815?hash=item43f2ad751f:g:ggwAAOSwtnpXnw3V

Mated with something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-TA-FE-370-Stereo-Integrated-Amplifier-/282119903005?hash=item41afa8171d:g:1lgAAOSwtnpXn4Vg

and this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Denon-CD-Player-/112075777006?hash=item1a183ca3ee:g:9kQAAOSwiYFXGfco

would do the trick for £200.

+1

Some good choices there for £200. Those speakers look pretty efficient and able to fill a big room even when used with a low powered amplifier.

p.s. Don't worry lindsayt I'm not going to make a habit of agreeing with you. Normal service will resume after this post. ;)
