Help setting up my new Cyrus amp

Hi everyone. I bought the Cyrus i9-XR today after a really impressive demo in the store.

I have it home and am trying to set up. The cables have come with banana plugs on the end - this was set up by the shop for me to make things idiot proof at my request.

When I look to plug them in to the back of the amp I note there seem to be little tiny plastic covers on the pins in the middle of the sockets on the back of the amp. I managed to push the plugs on, but one on try the little plastic bit came off (I still have it).

Now I’m wondering if I should have somehow taken these tiny plastic bits off beforehand, or are they supposed to stay on?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I’ve tried to add an image but it won’t let me. These aren’t the normal circular plastic covers. They’re tiny little plastic bits right on the end of the pin in the middle of the socket. Maybe 1-2mm in diameter.

Edit: managed to add a photo

Back to the dealers??
Cyrus don't use standard banana plugs as far as I am aware.

....or are they supposed to stay on?
Yes.
The plug goes around and makes contact beyond them.

Although you've 'broken' it as such, it's only part of the shrouding - a BFA plug should still go in ok.
The dealer shouldn't really have left you to guess - but, as has been said, plugs are supplied. Have you checked all the packaging?

(You've got the model up from my i7-XR. Good luck to you 👍)

True poor dealer information.
However, if you will go and buy this sort of kit it's your own fault.....

😁
With a good recording, he'll think the odd plugs are a small price to pay for the sound he gets.
I auditioned a few amps at the price point (circa £1.5k) and this was easily the best. As you say the sound quality was really worth it. I think we listened to the Arcam A25 for like 30 seconds. It was no contest! 😀

So yes you totally understand where I’ve been having issue. It’s those type of plugs with the hollow pins on them. The plastic bit came off on one of the pins inside the socket when I was trying to insert the plug over the pin - I think the pin on the plug may have been a bit “tight“ so it gripped the little plastic bit on the end to the point where it came off.

So the approach is that the plastic bits in the plugs stay on, and the plugs make contact with the socket beyond the plastic cap? I think I can get the little plastic bit back on, but presumably if the plastic bit wasn’t there it would all still work because the main thing is that it connects somewhere?

Finally worked out how to create a .jpg from a .heic image on this iPhone.

Anyway this picture explains things better than I can. The upper black speaker socket now has no plastic end bit for the internal pin. The red one next to it does.

And yes, it’s BFA connectors on the end of the speaker wire.

Got a great price on it from Peter Tyson. Only £1550. With Focal Vestia No2 floor standers at £799. Took my Rega P3 RS in for the demo. Sound was amazing!

As long as the speaker cable BFA connector makes purchase and holds on the “stripped” speaker binding post then I can’t foresee any issue?
Copper to copper is what you are seeking for signal transmission anyway..

Oh.. That amp will really come alive when you get the PSU XR supplying it too..
A step change I found during my audition of it..Took it from thin (with Kudos Cardea Suoer 20As) to fuller bodied and holographic soundstage !
A great upgrade potential 👍🏻

I notice Doug Brady are doing them for £995. It’s tempting but I’m tapped out for now. But as you say brilliant upgrade potential - I’ve read how good they are. I’d just need to tell the wife it was £100 😀
