Hi all, i am getting a new tv as a present for myself for the festive season!!
I have narrowed it down to one of the two below;

sony kdl-37w5500 or panasonic tx-l37s10 or ?????

my sources are an xbox 360, a sony bdp-s350 blu-ray and a virgin media v+ HD box (BBC HD, ESPN HD etc).
So far the lowest prices i have for these are

£550 for the panasonic and £650 for the sony??

Just want as good a picture as possible really, this will be a bedroom tv!
would really appreciate some advice on which to choose or another option as may consider a 40"
budget limit is £675

thanks guys Joe (the_goat)

Hi Joe,

I own the 40w5500 sony set and can report that it is a great TV, however this is third time lucky as i have been blighted by the dreaded backlight clouding which has been seen on alot of sony sets this year. If you go down the Sony route i would make sure straight away that you are able to return the TV should you get one with a backlight problem (look up sony clouding or backlighting on here to see past discussions). I have returned 2 sets but my third is spot on with no backlight issues but as i understand it the problems are not confined to specific sets but are across the whole range so be carefull!

I've not seen that Panasonic model so wouldn't like to comment....they have made some great TV's but the latest range seems a step back in places but you won't get any clouding issues and i'm sure it will be a perfectly acceptable TV but i would wait to see if someone replies with their experiences of that TV before deciding.

You can get the Sony for 634 delivered from here ~

cheaper electricals

Ive just bought a 46W5500 off them and can say its awesome for the money

It also has no backlight issues (I believe its to do with where theyre made)

HOWEVER, default settings on the panasonic probably give a better picture. If you go with the sony you should really consider trying to get it calibrated if you can
