Just recently my amp has started to pick up a loud "popping" noise throught the sky box, probably a bad earth or similar (sorry not too up the finer points of electics!). It happens when either the fridge, washing machine or dishwasher are in operation. If I'm listening to cd's or watching a movie it's fine.

I've replaced the double sockets that the fidge and dishwasher plug into, but have now run out of ideas

Is there a way to isolate the sky box from picking up this noise? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Mart,

I am the least techy bloke you'll come across, therefore shooting in the dark here.A mains lead conditioner may help and disipate the surge that you are getting. Worth a try if you haven't already done it.

Good luck

Hi

I have had similar problems before.

I would suggest a Isoplug or Neoplug which is i use, next to the source of the problem.

Neoplug suppresses the surge produced by the fridge, etc.

Just plug in the small device into a nearby socket.

Thanks for the replies. I have bought a mains suppressor but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. I'm begining to wonder if the amp might be on it's way out, because

1. it's only started hapenning in the last 2 months

2. My stereo amp, in a different room, but same mains circuit doesn't pick up interference (although my computer speakers do pop when the fridge and washing machine start)

Are there any other things I could do to try and stop the "popping" as I'm sure it can't be good for the amp?
