i am looking at buying the onkyo 606 amp, but am not sure if it will be o.k in my cabinet because i have read they get hot when on.my cabinet dimensions are (w 540 d 440 h 200)with a back on, and the 606 dimensions are (w 435 d 374 h 174) will this be o.k.

With a back on - does that mean the cabinet has a back (I know it sounds obvious but, just checking!). Main reason to ask is, that only leaves you 66mm for the cables to be plugged in at the back which I don't think is enough meaning the 606 may well stick out the front of the cabinet (let alone the cooling issues).
If the back is open, I think those dimensions would be okay, but not if the back is closed.

Can you cut the back out?

I did this with my unit. Measured the height and width of the amp, and then cut the back out slightly smaller than the measurements. Amp pushes back farther. Connections are all hidden behind the unit, not within it. Additional circulation provided. And from the front you wouldn't even know that anything has been altered.
