HDMI query

I have a Sony STR-DA1200ES which I currently hook up to a Panasonic CRT TV via a S-video to Scart cable.

I am in the process of starting to add a combined Freevew HDD/DVD recorder (PVR for want of a better term) and this should have an HDMI interface.

Would it be possible to connect the PVR to the Sony via HDMI for audio and use S-video connector for the video (the Sony will not convert HDMI to S-video) until such a time as I upgrade the TV.

No, since the STR-DA1200ES only has HDMI pass-through, and can't extract audio from anything connected via HDMI.

the hdmi doesnt allow the audio to be output thru the amps speakers. as far as im aware.
