Just a quick question, when playing some blu-ray disc with true hd why do i not get any sound out of the surround back speakers (i.e rambo no sound, and cars sound) only if i change it to dolby ex do i get sound out of them on all films.

panasonic th50px70,panasonic bd30,panasonic dmr-ex87,onkyo 606,7.1 kef 1005's.

Probably because the disc only has a 5.1 TrueHD soundtrack and TrueHD is just outputting the channels it has direct, while the dolby ex setting is chewing on the signal and inventing something for the rear channels.

Don't know whether it's a limitation of the decoders, or a restriction in the licensing agreement, but most (all?) of the HD audio modes on my amp don't allow further processing.

There seem to be very few discs with 7.1 on so far - I think Golden Compass and Dark City are the only ones I've seen.

Dolby ex is so called BECAUSE it has the information in it for the back speakers. Some amps have settings on to MATRIX it though so that 5.1 surround will still use the rears. Does ur amp have any settings like that?
