I am just about to buy either the Panasonic dmp bd 35 or the 55.

Can anyone tell me if i can get hd audio through an optical cable, as the bd 35 has no multichannel out, but the bd 55 does.

My amp does not have a hdmi IN but it does have optical IN.

No you cant, optical does not support the bandwidth required for HD audio codecs.

...So the 55 connected by multichannel analogue to the yamaha seems to be the solution.

Not quite sure I understand the question, but conventional speaker cable would seem to be the answer

Sorry about being a bit vague!

Hooking up a pana dmp bd 55 blueray to my yamaha 5.1 surround amp using analogue cables so i can get hd audio formats.

1x pair for my main fronts

1x pair for my surrounds,

But there is only one input in the rear of my amp for the center channel.What cable would i need to connect from the center OUT on the blueray to the center channel IN on my amp.

Just a conventional single phono cable for the centre: so two for the front L/R, two for the surround L/R, one for centre, one for subwoofer.
