I have seen some pictures of the LG 55 b7v TV and that does look mighty fine too. No desire to upgrade this year though, or not even next.

I agree with the most natural picture too - that's why I love LG Oled TVs.

Lg are at the stage where they are selling you 99% same product as year before - they are just making them brighter and compatible with latest spec like HLG.

I think hence all the fancy designs and them selling panels to more companies Phillips Sony.

This is not a criticism but an accurate display is just that 0 black cant be any blacker.
With the exception of brightness then eventually wider colours past P3 out towards Rec2020 - years away what is there??

Blacks are suppose to be better again. On not so good feeds you can get some not so good blacks but I put this down to source, but it's barely noticeable, otherwise I agree a perfect TV, but they do seem to improve each year, certainly mine improved a lot, but I do agree with you where do they go now?

For people who don't need HLG there was like 0 improvement this year on anything substantial..

100 extra nits of brightness big deal. Samsung got an upgrade of upto around 800 extra this year. With massive gains in colour volume and rec 2020 percentage and getting 110% of dci p3. Yet oled dci p3 is basically the same value as last year and still under 100%.

it just seems like oled is taking far too long to get improvements.

Don't forget that LCD technology has been developed over a long time. Even plasma technology took a number of years. In comparison, OLED has been remarkable with the speed of its improvements.

Its hitting 82% of rec2020 according to avf which will be larger than P3 which is pointless as UHD is mastered to P3 colour spec as far as ai know.

OLED just needs to do 1000nits and job done. Might be doing that with this years model

1000 nits on dynamic settings but around 840 on normal and calibrated settings (I think).

Cant remember mate probably. 1000 nits might be holy grail for oled.
Led be at 4000 nits in 3 years I reckon. No idea what thats like depends on how stuff is mastered going forward asto whether 1000 will be enough.

Just came back from cinema is pretty bright but never going hit 1000 nits so mastering at 4000 seems a bit crazy unless its just done for home market

For me film was killed by them showing a 2.40:1 film on 16.9 screen with no masking top and bottom.

16:9 advert content looked great before the film. Film looked decent but that was bugging me as I am very aware of it now.
Was only Boss Baby for my son so not end end world 🙂

As far as am concerned Oled are a ripp off at those prices Am sure the Sony ZD9 would be around £2,800 around Xmas this year why would I pay 5k for Oled at this last stage.

You're comparing an end of the line Sony model with a brand new OLED. The Sony was £4K when it was launched. You can get a 65-inch OLED for £2800 too.

A fairer comparison would be Sony ZD9 Vs LG E6V (same generation), both of which are £3499 currently. So, not a rip off at all.

i went to new york and seen beauty and the beast in dolby cinema, of course it is the best video quality i've ever seen at a cinema and it was amazing but it doesn't seem too different compared to UHD discs on my tv, blacks and brightness are probably equal to dolby cinema projector's too..

Says a lot for that cinema.
Because its very difficult to maintain a black level at the brightness needed to fill a huge screen with enough light.

Takes 2 projectors big bastards.

Completely different to tv

Cinema screen in the home is special, especially now witu 4k uhd.
I dont have hdr or a display that accurately does rec2020 out of the bix.

I have managed to get my pj to do 4K SDR WCG calibrated by eye - best I can do and I have been tweaking it and something to behold

Couple years time pj's going be amazing for not that much money for what you get.

Going to be able to have much bigger screens than normal so will be sitting closer to it naturally.

Be like Imax in the home - how good is that

and also they had a little promo for their tech promoting HDR and the black levels etc. screen faded to real black, no grey. and then up came the text (yes...the projector is still on) classic *biggrin*

yeah thats a laser trick it can turn fully off so proper black. Epson domestic Lasers do that same

Just watching Planet Earth 2 again on my LG 65e6v with the Oppo 203 and its superb, it's hard to believe a TV can go brighter.
