Ghosting on faces

I've got a new Samsung 32" conncted to a Toshiba XD500 DVD player. The picture quality to me seems mostly great - nice and sharp, but faces seem to "ghost", in they appear to become detached and lag behind the movement of the head. It's really annoying, something which I never noticed with my (4 yrs) old sammy 26" and simple Panasonic DVD player. Is it the TV or the DVD player? I cant compare to TV as I cannot receive off air / digital broadcasts.

Sounds like your tv to me. probably got some 'processing' effect switched on thats causing it (Digital noise reduction, contrast enhance or whatever)

Yep, it seems to be the DNR - when OFF its no longer apparent, not sure its completely gone but its certainly not distracting. So what's the point in a DNR if it messes the picture up so much?

Because people love all these fancy 'screen modes' on tvs. My pioneer has a stupid amount of them (ALL off)

DNR can be useful if the picture is full of 'noise' ~ otherwise its next to useless (Like most 'digital processing' modes)
