I thought I might just be preaching to the converted. Good to hear you're a fan Electro, I'll checkout the links. No doubt they're great live.

(In past employment I got to experience plenty of live bands, the majority more famous - very few playing better music).

A bit....no absolutely very disappointed with the Decemberists new album....I am a big fan of how they manage to do something different in every album they produce..but for me this one's just a bit too far from their roots of alt/folk,country....they've went all synth and I'm not happy about it.

It's been 10 years now since Frightened Rabbit released the midnight organ fight.

Tomorrow they play the album in it's entirety at Glasgow o2 academy....it's one of my fave modern albums...Scott Hutchison was going through a tough period of depression while pening the album...it's not the finest production but it's really more a lyrical album.....this is a acoustic performance of it with a little help from the twilight sad's James Graham on "keep yourself warm"....live from the captains rest on Great Western Road..Glasgow

That's a shame.

Album's all available on Spotify now, just had a quick listen, quite like the first two tracks, but goes down hill fast after that. A few songs are truly awful Severed, Tripping along and the aptly named Everything is awful

Mac..I'm gutted...three years I've waited for their next album....Colin Meloy is a lyrical genius in my book and I really can't get over this pish they've mushed together.....I think I'll be holding back on buying that ticket for the o2 academy in November....oh and listening to Shelagh McDonald at the moment....I can see how you liken her to Jony Mitchell....such a shame.

I have listened to the Glasgow album.........I'll check it out

Just picked up a copy of karine Polwart "a pocket of wind resistance " been looking for that for a month or so now..and that's my local hmv just getting it in....oh and I just grabbed the Decemberists new album while I was there....just because I've got the rest of them (the UK releases anyway)hope it grows on me...like" the king is dead" did.lol..

Excellent, must play the Karine album later.

Currently listening to the new one by Alela Diane called Cusp... there's a lovely track on there dedicated to Sandy Denny.

I agree not keen on this change of direction, a few tracks are ok but others I don't like at all. Probably trying to go more mainstream.

I'm a huge Decemberists fan, they are probably my favourite current, still active band. I've loved all their albums up to now so I am now filled with dread with the prospect of listening to this latest offering. I've recently ordered Florasongs off Ebay which I believe is an EP, I'm looking forward to playing that when it arrives.

Anyone here heard The Tain by them?

Hello Mac, Have you come across Dean Owens before? Not really folk but you may like to check him out, is Scottish but lives in the USA now. I quite like so far his "Into the Sea" album.

I have as a matter of fact and quite liked him, in fact, earmarked that album for the blog.

Not keen on his new album though, Southern Winds.

Think others on here might like him too.

That's good, yes I agree his latest album is not so good for my taste.

Someone else I came across yesterday was Robert Vincent - I'll Make the Most of My Sins.
