Folk/Acoustic albums

A couple of albums of differing genres to try... Shannon Lay, Living Water... a stunning beautiful acoustic album, only available to buy via download or vinyl sadly

the other, an Irish Folk/Americana band called I Draw Slow and their album Turn Your Face to the Sun, you'd swear they were straight from Nashville

Just interested Mac, do you listen solely to Folk/Acoustic type music? I don't know how you find the time to find all these new and different artists.

All credit to you, you've prompted me to investigate loads of acts I've never heard of, trouble is I just can't keep up

Hi Dib,

I'm just a music nut and since I've been recovering from my big op, I've had more time than usual on my hands.

Certainly Folk/acoustic music is my favourite, but I do like other genres a bit of Smooth Jazz and I like artists like The National, The Slow Show, Coldplay, Sting, Other Lives and older stuff like Bread, Eagles, America, Carly Simon, Stephen Bishop, Simon and Garfunkel...

If you haven't already, take a look at my website at your leisure, most things I mention on this thread are usually on there too.

I was listening to a bit of five leaves left earlier too. Magic album. Such a sad end for such a talented guy.

Hi Mac,

I came a NZ singer/songwriter a few months ago, can't find her now, she was about 18, any ideas?

You could also try Jenny Mitchell and Nadia Reid

I’m listening to an album by Jonathan Wilson called fanfare.

Was playing in my record shop, nice folk/rock type album. First listen but it’s pretty decent and it has a nice orchestrated feeling, almost beatle-esque vibe on the first track.

Quite an old one, but I think it's wonderful and it's currently getting a long overdue play..

It's ok I have found her: Holly Arrowsmith has album For The Weary Traveller on Spotify.

Yes, of course! forgot about her, a lovely album

Don't know Jenny Mitchell, will give her a play, Nadia Reid I do like, but only her moe stripped back tracks.

Yes I like Holly Arrowsmith, she is American but lives in NZ now. She does not have a record contract, has just raised over $20,000 to fund her new album.

Yes I agree about Nadia Reed.

Got it on now... some excellent guitar work, vocals at times remind me a bit of Elliot Smith

Cheers

Been listening to a lot of Mediaeval Beabes today, I think they're superb! particularly like Mirabilis and Undrentide

Mark Rose Smith, have you heard the new Decemberists album I'll be your girl? most of it's not available on Spotify or Apple music, but I do like the first track.

I've liked Acoustic Alchemy since hearing their 'The Beautiful Game' album. I collected a few more albums of theirs, then bought this 24/48 download:

A well recorded, live album that makes good use of high resolution - and good value at £11.99.

They might be too commercial-sounding for some tastes? but if you like your acoustic stuff tuneful, this could be for you.
