I have just set up my first home cinema system and I am sure that I have done something wrong somewhere. Please could somebody run thier eyes over my settings and tell me if they are right?

My system....

  • Pioneer 500m tv.
  • onkyo 876 amp
  • ps3
  • sky plus
  • q acoustics 1010i 5.1 speakers

I have connected my sky to the amp with s-video and optical, and the ps3 via hdmi to the amp, and then the amp to the tv via hdmi.

Pioneer 500m settings.....

  • Picture - PURE
  • contrast - turned down to 20 for burn in period.

  • DSD - DAC direct no
  • hardware set up, HDMI - audio tv out, OFF

  • optical output - dolby digital,

ps3 ....

  • sound - HDMI automatic settings.
  • display - video output, auto
  • display, cross colour reduction filter - off
  • RGB full range (HDMI) limited.
  • y pb/cb pr/cr super-white (HDMI) - off.
  • video settings... bd/dvd ciema conversion - auto
  • DVD wide display - letterbox
  • BD/ dvd upscaler - normal,

Having a quick glance id say sky should be on MEDIUM contrast

And the Pioneer tv wants all the extra cr*p switching off (DNR, Contrast enhance, black enhance etc)

PS3 scaler to be OFF, your tv will upscale FAR better. Im pretty sure your tv will accept DEEP COLOUR too (so PS3 to output FULL RGB and SUPERWHITE ON if it is)

One thing I would say is don't put too much faith in Audessey - it provides a starting point, but from there check that the calculations for speaker distance are correct. Then adjust speaker levels using your ears - Audessey has a habit of setting the surrounds either too high or too low. Ditto sub.
