With new models just released and some pending ive found some good end of line bargains however im wondering how they stack up against each other and im hoping someone could give me some advice. the tvs ive found are :

Pioneer 4280D ex demo for 1150 (lots of hours on it)

Sony 46X3500 new for 1299 + 5 years warranty

panasonic px80 for 549

although the shops i looked at the in said they where setup correctly to me the X series looked the best even better than the 46W4500 (on both high and standard definition) which is suprising at the pioneer is supposedly the best out there.

Sounds like an enviable choice! ÿOf course 'set up correctly' is an interesting concept and open to question. ÿIt depends hugely upon the type of shop and the level of expertise. ÿMany retailers optimise their TVs so that they look good in an unnaturally bright environment - LCDs, with their 'sparkly' picture are usually the winners here!

The other important factor is the quality of source material - SD, HD, Blu-Ray etc. ÿYou do need to be comparing on a level playing field, paying attention to the sources that will be significant for you at home.

I must say that I only once saw my Pioneer looking really good in weeks of viewing in different places before I bought it. ÿThat was in a specialist store where I was looked after and given time and attention. ÿThe PQ at home is now way beyond my expectations and is sometimes astonishing.

£549 for the px80 is not a fantastic buy, because you can pick them up for about that price from many sources. I have seen them for less, although that was before the pound fell quite a bit making things more expensive. £569 is a what Dixons on line have them for . so your are saving £20 quid.

The Pioneer is an interesting one. It is a fantastic set,but there are no more, so they are difficult to find. I have seen brand new ones in a box for that price 3 months ago , but then as I say, very few left now. If you could get them to give you a 5 year guarantee It would be woth thinking about.

Can't help you with the Sony, as I am not interested in LCD
