Anyway, does anyone know if cables make any difference to sound, as I'm struggling to find a thread on the subject?

Aah, good old electricity. Movement of electrons, or is it? Are they even really there, these little critters are the ultimate critters, what with quantum tunneling and not actually being anywhere until you peek at them. Personally I like the sound of blue ones.

As any physicist will tell you electrons don't have "colour". It's quarks that have "colour".

Good news everybody! (said in the voice of Professor Hurbert J Farnsworth)

My willing lab assistant is still alive. It turns out that the symptoms of 'death by electrocution' wear off by them self given enough time. So that's three scientific breakthroughs we've discovered today.

This particular lab assistant seems to be a good one. He's more robust than the last one I broke.

Anyway, more progress is needed. Does anyone have any ideas for other HiFi related science experiments that we can try? I was considering trying a few blind listening tests but he threatened to call the police if I try and remove his eyes so we'll have to think of something else. Any ideas anyone?

Maybe we should do away with mains power altogether. I think potato batteries is the way to go for achieving true natural organic sound. Of course have everything wired with Tara Labs.

Amplification Potato Linear PSU:

As potatoes marinate, sound becomes more clear. After the initial burning in you end up with chips and vinegar to munch on while listening to Barry Manilow. After feasting on the PSU you manure in the potato garden, thus completing the natural cycle of life.

Where do you find all these - your google search list must be being CIA monitored by now

A serious thank you. I was getting so pi###d off with all the bad feeling on this forum and then BBB had me laughing out loud. Brilliant

I'm just off to stand my speakers in large tubs of water to properly damp the sound.

Not exactly researching College de France libraries here. I just type potato battery in Google search and voila.

And where did the idea of potato battery come from and what is the odds of such vivid photgraphy on the subject

You can find anything you want on the internet and Google images is the greatest source of comedy since people started posting videos of kittens on YouTube. A few months ago I typed in the random phrase "fire breathing space hippo" into Google to see if you really can find anything on the internet...

Yep, it's there.

As this forums tertiary qualified amateur HiFi scientist I've just performed a highly dangerous and technically complex experiment* on a Bose Wave radio by dropping it into a bucket of luke warm water.

Conclusion: It sounds much better now.

* Don't try this at home kids. I'm a professional forum poster with years of experience.

Bose is one of the few manufacturers whose products improve by not actually plugging them in.

You're right there. I've just instructed my willing lab assistant to plug the soggy Bose Wave radio into the mains and the situation has deteriorated very rapidly. TBH I think he might be a little bit dead. Maybe I should poke him with a stick or something to check?

On the plus side at least the Bose Wave radio still sounds better than it did before the dunking dispite all the hissing and crackling noises that it's making now. I'm not sure if the smoke and sparks are a good thing though.

Well, it seems the 4 parts water, 1 part Fairy Liquid solution has done the trick. The picture on my tv is just amazing now, SD is like HD, HD is like 4K, and I can only guess how good 4K would look if I actually owned a 4K TV.

As for the sound quality on my music, well it's gone through the roof, I'm now actually hearing things that weren't even on the original recordings, how good is that? The bassoon solo on 'Ace Of Spades' is something no-one but the luckiest few has ever heard before, and the 20 minute drum solo on 'Adagio In G Minor' by Albinoni sends tingles down my spine.

Come on everyone, get your syringes out, and get squirting.

I have conclusively proved, in a double deaf test, that mains switchd on and fairy liquid make no difference. If you really want to clean your mains use Dettol.

You're wrong, and the proof's in the pudding, and now I've cleaned my mains, my puddings taste twice as good.

I'm not squirting over anything this evening.

I was disappointed with the sound from my Marantz CD player until one day I had the wild idea of turning the CD over and all of a sudden music started coming from the speakers. Unfortunately it was a Bruce Springsteen CD so now I've gone back to playing them the other way up.

And you're right to play the CD the other way up, as it, and all other CDs contain a free recording of John Cage's wonderful '4'33'. And that's a fact.

Well after putting my speakers in buckets of water and giving them a thorough soak test for 48 hours the sound does appear to be slightly more damped.
