biggus_1961:did we not already have these as a BW 602 S3 a few years back ?

About the only they thing they appear to have in common is their cabinet size! Everything else appears to be almost completely different.

I'd be interested to hear how they compare directly to ATC SCM11 and 19 which I would imagine carry more amortised fixed costs into their designs, but not necessarily contain any more valuable parts or design details.

lol! have you seen an atc driver?

Clare Newsome:Head to head between the EB2 and ATCs planned shortly....

Ladies and Gents of the forum. Your input was brilliant for EB2 and the first test was even better than I dared hope for so I thank you all but the above is the bit I've been dreading. Following EB1 was bad enough but SCM11 head to head?. Not looking forward to this at all. SCM11 is an amazing speaker.

Ricky ,

Ya gotta have faith in your product . If the only negative thing they could say about them is that they are of an " unfashionably large size " (whatever that means) then you haven't got much to worry about . Other than, when you are going to be able to release the EB3s !

Having said that , I've got a pair of SCM11s so I don't want your speakers to do too well !

Congrats on the review result Ricky.

And yes a comparison with the SCM11 would be very intersting. It's worth remebering that the list price on the SCM11 is now 950 quid tho so if you can near that performance it will be special.

If the EB2 can beat the SCM11 tho it will probably be on 'musicality' if anything. I've auditioned some SCM11s and yes they are amazing - midrange detail, dynamics and timing are fab. However did they make my CDs sound better? In some cases yes (e.g. Rage Against the Machines' first album sounded unbelivable) but a lot of CDs sounded worse (e.g. Strokes first album) and also some Classical CDs lost some of their 'zest'. Basically the ATCs are completely honest, as we know.

I therefore had a feeling that if I bought the SCM11s I would a) start to over analyse recording quality too much and b) my hifi would start to overly influence the music I listened to. So I didn't buy them.

Indeed, as I was about to post on the EB2 review...

So long as the EB2 vs ATC SCM11 'showdown' reflects the fact that the ATCs cost almost £300 more than the EB2s nowadays. (SCM11s are £956 according to three randomly selected dealers from the ATC website and Hifix.)

Good point, though I reckon you feel the magnetic field long before it hoves into view.

depends how much "real" cost is in Rickys prices to be abale to make a basic VFM comparison. In any case this is a consumer product, and hi-fi at that so an analysis of what it contains is largely irrelevant if it sounds fine.

Our reviews are on a performance-per-pound basis, so yes, that will be taken into consideration.

EB3. Hmmm. Already mapped it out. Floorstander with plinth. Still crunching the circuits at the moment so I'll keep you posted. It will have something that no other loudspeaker has, at least to my knowledge to try and take care of room boundary issues ( been reading Chebby's post about tone controls ).

plastic penguin:
Well done, Rick, a very good review - certainly adding them very close to the top of the list.

You've probably mentioned it already, but what amps have you tested them with?

He mentioned a Caspian earlier in the the thread somewhere....

Hi Ricky,

You mean something like the two position "Boundary Compensation" switch on the Emotiva speakers??

No, my idea is completely adjustable. Not predetermined.

EvilWolf:Better the ATC SCM11, and you're in business.

Rick,

I think this chap deserves a prize from you!

Are you planning a Home Cinema System based on the EB1 or EB2 speakers anytime soon?

Riding on the success of both your speakers, I think the next move forward is into Home Cinema.

Ronald

I think Richard/Rick/EB Ricky has already said several times here that he has no interest in home cinema, so such a system is unlikely.
