chebby:John, don't forget the built in power socket for the AE (keeps it tidier and frees up another wall socket.)

johnduncan:Power outlet for you to plug an airport express into (… la Audioengine)

what we need are small active standmounts with quality built in dacs that will leave a certain other brand for dead

you only have to look at the interestthe otherbbrand generates to know theres a ready market for such a device

some thing with the voicing of sonus faber would be good

over and out

Sealed enclosure, two-way, compact monitors. A 21st century LS3/5A with some decent bass this time. For people who can't stretch to £1350 for Spendor SA1 or Harbeth P3ESR. Something that will perform well on wallmounts and bookshelves - as well as stands - and do not need space behind them.
I think the world has more than enough 2-way and 2.5-way, reflex, floorstanders, but precious few decent sealed box/infinite baffle designs.

I will buy some EB2 speakers like a shot if they match this criteria!

I think they'll only be sold in pairs, so you'll be fine.

Now, now. Play nice. What if I wanted just one as a centre or for, god forbid 6.1!

OK, since you ask...

And if you wanted them for 6.1, I'm sure the company would welcome an order for three pairs...

*Shakes head* And, shuttup about the 6.1: it was 1am and I was trying to be smart; I didn't suceed.

JohnDuncan:My turn. Floorstanders please, except it's actually your EB1 stuck on top of a box that makes it look like a floorstander. That box contains power amps, active crossover, a beresford DAC (because it has a volume control in it and I'm sure Stanley would do you a deal for bulk). Each box has its own power input. Connection between the two is one single strand of speaker cable (not coaxial). Power outlet for you to plug an airport express into (… la Audioengine). Dimensions (because these are important) - 90 x 17 x 27 (so basically the EB1 with 60cm of stand underneath it). There you go, a complete stereo where all that's required is an airport express, two power outlets and a length of speaker cable. Oh, and have the cabinets made in China, much cheaper.

Look at this lot!!. No chance!!!

EB2 will NOT be active. It will never sell. The reason why is because you deny the customer his or her choice of amplifier. Bad idea!.

Secondly, John Duncan says have the cabinets made in China. This is a British Loudspeaker, not a Chinese throw-together. I want to protect british industry, not decimate it further.

EB2, whatever the configuration will be built using British cabinets, British capacitors and coils, and any other components will come to me from EU members, not from China.

Right. That's that.

Bin thinkin about this active thing.

When EB2 is done, I'm gonna work on a new concept of active power. Initially 2 way BUT (!!!!), the beauty of this is you can use this with almost ANY passive 2 way loudspeaker. The active design, which has an active crossover in it, works in conjunction with the passive crossover in the cabinet to combine resulting in a 4th or 5th order filter. All built into a 24" stand. Any takers??

Is that along the same lines as having an amp pack on the rear of the speaker, e.g.the AVI Neutrons with amp packs.

I'm with John Duncan wanting an active standmount with the amps and DAC built into the stands, but I would go further, why put a socket for the AE on the back just build-in the WiFi receiver.

Confused about John asking to only use speaker cable between the 2, is this possible if both units were fully active?

Oh I dunno, I'm just a software developer - Ricky's the speaker designer. I just wanted to avoid long runs of coax (cos they have higher margins

After a couple more minutes thought.....

Once you have WiFi (+DAC) on-board the DAC could split the channels and the speaker could WiFi one channel to a receiver in the other speaker.

Just 2 mains cables and no wires between the 2 speakers.

I guess this will not be the EB2, so I'll just have to go and start my own speaker company.

Any takers?

I really don't know what the configuration of these speakers is So I'm guessing here that if it's active, there's no crossover in the box or if there is, then it may be a bi-amp pack. As I said. I'm guessing. I could be wrong on both counts as I don't know the product other than it works well.

If that's what floats yer boat, fine. I wish you all the success in the world or, you could try the AVI's or some Meridian.

JohnDuncan:The crossover's a passive one in the speaker itself - so it's a powered passive monitor rather than being a true active.

No, there's an active crossover in the stand splitting the signal to the two power amps. This active crossover works IN CONJUNCTION with the passive crossover in the cabinet. I wish I'd never mentioned this. I don't think I'll mention it any more. I'll just get Arcaydis to build it.

Let's get back to the EB2 which is what the topic's all about.

No, I'm saying that's what the AVI Neutrons with Amp-paks are - passive crossover with a power amp stuck on the back.

And we are talking about the EB2s - you know, the active floorstanders with built-in DAC that you're going to build because you're finding they're much in demand

(no built-in wireless, you can leave that to the Aktimate Maxis which come out shortly)
