DTS-HD Master Audio from external USB HDD

I recently downloaded few concerts in 1080p X.264 quality (MKV container) and with the sound encoded in DTS-HD Master Audio. I store the files on external HDD with USB 2.0 connection.

What hardware/software do I need to play audio in full DTS HD MA quality, not only DTS core (Of course, same question for Dolby TrueHD instead of DD)?

I checked user manuals of some networked receivers (Onkyo TX-NR708 for example), and it seems it won't support it unless it is coming from HDMI connection.

I also checked media players (WDTV Live), and their support stops at DD and DTS.

Now, I wonder if there is a workaround?

Any thoughts appreciated,

Goran

You need dedicated player to play files with HD sound. Please bear in mind that HD sound only carries through HDMI. I for myself is using HDI Dune Prime 3.0 which ables to play BD ISO as well. I am not sure about other players but Prime 3.0 plays flawlessly.

They do come with a price tag though.

popcorn hour a200 and c200 will play HD Audio stored on USB drive but not within a MKV container with current firmware. it requires the as is BluRay folder stucture and menus stripped so its video only

a new firmware should correct this though and is expected in the next month or so

Thanks for the replies gyus;

I have spent last few hours reading threads, reviews and manual for the Dune, and it seems it is the only player on the market in this moment that has full BD ISO support with menus, and hi-res audio support.

Now, once again my doubt: Can it play hi-res audio through USB-connectrd HDD? The reason for doubt is that as far as I know, USB (and, for that matter, S/PDIF) don't have the bandwidth to support these formats - or am I wrong?

Now my final question: if I go on with media streamer solution, I guess I don't have to buy AV receiver with USB/Network capabilities - these will be handled by the media streamer and then passed to the receiver via HDMI and then to the TV via HDMI. Am I right in this?

Point taken Andrew, it's a thin ice territory, but...

1.Media players from Eminent, Asus and A.C.Ryan are selling with bittorrent software built-in and the same is with many NAS devices, and...

2.Where I live, I can finally buy blu-ray players and blu-ray HTIB, but there are only blank blu-ray discs on the market - no concerts, no films.

Most (but honestly, not all) of my DVDs are legally purchased, and I want to taste blu-ray leap in quality.

I am aware that this is thin excuse maybe and I had doubts if I should write this, but here it is...
