Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right section put up this post but here goes....Do all HD Ready LCD TVs upscale any content thrown to them through any input? I have a 32" Samsung (LA32R81B), with native resolution of 1366*768. It supports 720p and 1080i. Now if they do upscale, would that upscaling be better than a upscaling DVD player? The player in question is Cambridge 540R DVD player, I chose it because it plays CD very well for a DVD player and also upscales..

Any flat screen tv be it LCD or Plasma has to scale the incoming signal to fit its native resolution in this case 1366*768 be it a 576i, 720p or 1080i, depending on your tv depends how well this is scaled. Some tv's do a better job than others. The scaler in your DVD player or AV amp may tend to do a better job but this is not always the case, for e.g. the 8G Pioneers the consensus seems to be to output the original signal (no upscaling) to tv and let that do the upscaling due to it's very good video processing. Best way to test is with your own eyes, output from the DVD with no upscaling and let the TV sort it and then try it with the DVD player upscaling the DVD first and see what gives best results.

Another thing to considers is well is that LCD and Plasma display a progressive picture not interlaced so again depending on tv etc. some times it's better to let the tv's de-interlace the picture for display or let the DVD player do it before hand (576i to 576p)
