Of course, but there's only so much a DAC can do when presented with lossy sound. Besides, the Panasonic has a coaxial connection as well, allowing you to compare.

I know, i'ved tried a couple of them and Sony's with the same and were not as good as the Pioneer I went for. The other thing to mention is build quality, the pioneer is a proper aluminium box not a plastic tesco's special like the others.

That's fine if you've compared. By the way, Panasonic BDT500 has a metal chassis as well.

Yea, that was actually one of my first choices but discontinued and all I could find was 2nd hand or refurbished ones for more than they were new.

These are well known but a bit more expensive:

Could try and hit them with a price match.

So you're buying a blu ray player but not watching any blu ray films then?

 You must either be mentally challenged or purposfully trying to get a reaction.

Seriously, what does your comment have to do with my previous post?

you need to chill out with your deriogrity comments.

BB is merely trying to help, that's it.

Thanks for the info but I got it sorted now, bought the Pioneer BDP-450 yesterday, arrived this afternoon. Just putting it through it's paces now.

How long has is this post going to drag on for?! There will be differences but players are limited by the format they are playing. I remember years ago whsv had a review of a 32k dvd player which now would have worse picture quality than a run of the mill blu ray player. The quality will be from the kit producing the final vision and the sound.
