Unless the battery manufactuers can make some technical step change then interchangeable battery packs are the only viable solution for mass transport.

not necessarily:

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/alternative_energy/2013/03/graphene_supercapacitors_small_cheap_energy_dense_replacements_for_batteries.html

if you're inpatient you can skip to paragraph 8.

Interesting science, but given we can't eve electrify a tiny bit of train line (in the UK anyway) without years of consultation and hand wringing, then a supercharging highway looks somewhat unreaslistic.

Get the French in to do it for us. They are merciless about stupid things like historic dwellings, rare amphibians, ancient water meadows etc. Blast through the lot (evict the occupants, poison the amphibians and drive piles into water meadows) and bribe or arrest anyone who objects.

indeed - as the French themselves say: when you drain the swamp don't consult the frogs

No question, now, what had happened to the posters on the WHF and What Car forum. The creatures outside looked from post to post, and from forum to forum, and from post to forum again; but already it was impossible to say which forum was which.

We got bored with reading about the AVI wars and started to talk about something far more interesting and possibly less controversial :shifty: ;)

Oh gawd have you gone all tree hugger on us Chebby , or just stating a fact ?.

No tree hugger here.

I want to lock up NIMBYs (and amphibians) when they try to halt major infrastructure projects that could bring thousands more jobs.

So, why do the AVI owners that post on this forum always take a pro AVI stance no matter what the merits are of whatever's being discussed?

Does AVI ownership and forum participation come with a suspension of their logical and analytical faculties whenever hi-fi is being discussed?

There are precedents for this type of behaviour.

I'm not aware of what you describe with all of our AVI owning brethren. Just one or two rampant dogmatists (who seem to get angry at the very idea of people using anything else) but, on the whole, a fairly normal bunch of folk who like their systems.

There is a 'pecking order' though. When the boys are getting too agreeable, the chief whip appears in order to 'put a bit of stick about' and ensure no-one goes 'off message'.

It's pretty obvious really, if you use your logical and analytical faculties.

No it wasn't. I personally think there is one (and precisely one) on this forum.

So, because you think there's precisely one, is it then acceptable for posters (e.g. AL) to throw the term around willy-nilly without naming someone in particular or presenting evidence?

@matthewpiano, I know you didn't really intend to imply anything :)

I can't get very excited about it, to be honest. I've seen a lot worse on other forums, where it appears to be not only condoned but encouraged by the moderators.

Thats sad.

Perhaps you could point me at the house rules that have been broken?

Amazon don't break tax law either.

Do you think the two are comparable, in the big scheme of things?

I used to be member of the Tufty Club.

I hope you kept that a secret at school!

Those known to be cub scouts used to be found tied upside down on wire fences at our infant school. The teachers had to be quick witted to prevent the kids from siphoning petrol in the car park to complete the job!

Heaven knows what they'd have done with a 'Tufty'.

I have to disagree with you there Chebby. ;)

Most of the AVI religion cult members are barking mad nutters with an unhealthy obsession for garden sheds. :shifty:

I have no personal knowledge of this but according to Wikipedia (i) the tufty club was for under 5s, so not a big problem at school, (ii) by the early 1970s 2 million children were members - so most of the kids at school would have been members anyway!

I remember the ads. All a bit 'academic' to us though. No ice-cream vans dared to come to our estate (they couldn't get back out without wheels), so 'weasel' would never have got the opportunity to run out from behind one.

But I thought the point of this forum was to nit pick. :)
