Hi, as a new owner of the Denon 2311 a lot of its set up features are a bit alien to me so hear it goes.

1. If I am watching a Blu Ray with PCM decoding I select this feature in the disc settings, in turn what comes up on the amp is multi channel, what does this mean exaclty.

2. When listening to a cd using my blu ray as a transport and sending digital signal to amp, is there any hard and fast rule regarding which is best to use digital or HDMI in the input mode settings, i've listening to both and to be honest there is not much difference, cable are HDMI (QED HDMI-P) & (QED_Coaxil silver spiral).

Many thanks in advance to all who reply.........

1) If you want DTS Master shown on receiver, a setting needs changing in the blu ray player....got a Sony, by any chance.....

2) Either works....make a decision with your ears....

Mind you, if he's selected the PCM soundtrack on the disc, no way nohow he's going to get DTS Master shown on the display, since the disc isn't supplying a DTS soundtrack, but a PCM one.

Good point (after re reading the OP's questions)

I assume the OP can't get DTS Master and True HD displayed on the front of the receiver....if so, do this:

Goto set up......Audio settings.... and change the BDAudio Mix setting......That'll set the player to send to receiver for decoding.....

Thats exactly can't get DTS Master & True Audio HD displayed on front of the reciever.

I tried changing the BDAudio mix setting to mix & direct and still the same results with Multi Channel In displayed on reciever, by the way i've still set languages on disc to PCM uncompressed audio, the BD is Casino Royal in case thats relevant.

By the way is this what's happening in my set up as described below.........

In order to utilize Linear PCM through HDMI...you must have an HDMI v1.1 (or higher) Receiver that accepts HDMI audio. Also your Player must be able to decode the formats Internally. Everything that can, will be decoded inside the Player first and sent to the Receiver. It will also be displayed as PCM or "Multichannel" on the Receiver
Think I cracked by chance when I checked the amps front display and in small text PCM was highlighted, so this must indicate that the reciever is outputting PCM audio, well hope so anyway....

I've only got Casino Royale on DVD.....

I think the bly ray player needs to be on 'Mix'....then set the disc in the set up to DTS Master 5.1 or TrueHD 5.1 (whichever is available), rather than PCM Uncompressed....

That should do it.....if not keep the disc setting but change 'mix' to 'direct' (new Sony's are now on or off rather than mix and direct.....

Set the player's 'Audio (HDMI)' option to 'Auto', and the 'BD Audio Setting' to 'Direct'

Then select the DTS-HD MA or DD True HD soundtrack on the disc's menu. If you select LPCM or PCM or whatever, you'll get the LPCM soundtrack, not the DD/DTS HD ones.

Not that that's any bad thing: where discs provide a LPCM uncompressed multichannel soundtrack, that tends to be the best-sounding option, in my experience.

*Just checked this.

There are 2 versions of casino royal - one with a TrueHD soundtrack, and one with a PCM soundtrack.

So if u have the PCM one which u say - u'll get PCM (or just Dolby Digital if u select bitstream)

But dont worry - uncompressed PCM soundtrack on blu-ray happens to be the best possible sound - its a shame more discs dont use it.

Hi, have my amp now just over a week and so far so good, with some help from fellow forum members I think im nearly there, my main comments are.

1. It's not bad at all for playing music via HDMI out from blu ray, considering previous set up for music was Arcam A80 & CD92 set up, which was a tall order me thinks.

2. Blu Ray sound is much improved over previous multi channel outs from blu ray to Denon 3802 amp, more speed, power, punch and detail, so a good improvement in this area.

3. GUI interface is also vastly improved on previous single phono connection to amp, easier to navigate to.

So thumbs all round.

Thats good to know as I was concerned that my new reciever (aghhhh) was unable to receive/decode it.

It will.......

I use my Denon 2310 with all the Audyssey processing turned off, and with 'Pure Direct' on when using the blu ray player, cd player and x box.....

It's a touch cleaner/clearer sound, to my ears.......
