Hello,

I bought a Denon 1610 AV/Receiver a couple of weeks ago and bought a
the Monitor Audio Vector 5.1 Speaker package today and am obviously
keen to get it up and running as soon as possible.

My question concerns the Sub woofer connections and the MA literature
states that "the only method of input signal to the VW-8 is a RCA phono
input".

It also states that "a single cable from the "sub out" or LFE
connection on the amplifier to the RCA input connection on the VW-8
labelled "R". The RCA input marked "L" in this case will remain unused."

On the Denon 1610 it has three "holes"; the side is labelled PRE-OUT
and underneath it has a black "hole" with SUB WOOFER underneath, A red
hole which says SURR BACK underneath and finally a white "hole" with
FRONT HEIGHT underneath.

I understand the connection in the SUB but require clarification on what I stick where on the AV receiver.

I am just setting up 3.1 surround currently. If people are further
interested in helping I am connecting a SKy HD box, a X Box 360, a DVD
player and a Squeezebox classic. I am assuming that the X BOx, Sky and
DVD player will all go into the HDMI in on the amp but also unclear
where the Squeezebox goes in. I also assume I need to use an optical
cable in conjunction with my Sky HD box HDMI as I read some stuff
previously that this is the way to do it.

Thanks for any help

Your sub should be connected to the 'black' hole marked subwoofer. The red and white holes are pre outs for a power amp to run extra speakers for either surround back speakers in a full 7.1 system or an extra front pair in a 5.1 system using dolby prologic IIz.

Don't know about the squeezebox but, the other kit should all connect via HDMI with an extra optical connection for sky as mentioned.

Thanks very much for your help.

Can I just confirm, do I need a seperate cable for the subwoofer and if so which one or can I "bastardise" my existing RCA cable i.e. just use the red or white part of the cable?

With the Optical cable I assume it will be from the Sky HD box Out to the Amp and the HDMI out from the TV will adjust as required so that if I am viewing a 5.1 broadcast channel on Sky then I will get 5.1 surround sound.

Thanks again; the Denon manual is a minefield but looking forward to getting it all working; should be about April 2010 at this rate!
