This is what I can not get my head round

when I was a kid and I listened to my dads TT it sounded lovely and warm and detailed but my dad never spent a great deal of money on the TT .

Your hearing was a lot better. It gets worse as you get older, believe me!

Rubbish, lots of people had turntables and separates hifi even in the early 70s probably far more than now.

Not true I know loads of people who had TTs and separates hifi systems in the early 70s, probably far more than now.
