Damaged Tweeter

Unaccustomed as I am to the finer points in hi-fi (hence joining the forum), I seek some opinion. A while back when listening to my fabulous B&W P4 speakers without grills on and then forgetting to put them back when we had a kids party, some mindless 4 year old poked his/her finger into a tweeter causing an indentation akin to a puncture on a football. I honestly can't notice any effect listening to this speaker followed by a blast of the "good" one. The question is either am I deaf? Or am I missing something and the sound is and should be greatly affected?

Maybe difficult to reply but does anyone else have "tweeter damage" experience of this kind?

What kind of tweeter do the P4 have? It sounds like just the dust cover has been damaged and the inner functioning parts are OK.

It is just a 'dust cover' on the P4 so no, it wont effect the aound BUT it is annoying to look at.

You could contact B&W as to see whether they can replace it for you (or search for a local electronics engineer) but it can be left as it is.

There are a few tricks that people have used in the past to fix this; selotape, a hoover on gentle suck etc...

TBH i'd want it sorting properly. Especialluy for P4's; theyre lovely speakers :)

You've answered your own question by stating that you can hear no difference, however I am certain there will be some detrimental impact to the tweeter yet it may be inaudible to your ears.ÿ

Thanksÿ

Thanks guys. I think maybe you're right and the damage is external rather than affecting the inner working parts, but as you say..it don't look great! Really appreciate your comment about P4s d_a_n1979 - so long since I read any opinion on them, sometimes it's good to be reminded how they rate and compare with more modern speakers.

Ah no worries; i owned them years ago and then went up to the P5's and regretted it so hunted the buyer down and swapped them back haha...

Unfortunatley they went a year later as i moved house and they werent suitable.

I nearly bought a pair a few weeks ago on eBay for a 2nd system in the dining room (to replace my AE109's) but lost out by £0.40!

Sods law!!!
