I enjoy the ease of listening to a wide variety of music through Deezer Premium Plus (320kbps) via Sonos but I am wondering if I could boost the sound quality of the Sonos Playbar feeds coming from Blu-ray and Freesat by using an e.g. Arcam irDac in between them and the Playbar?

If the answer is yes then how do I overcome the problem that the Sonos Playbar only has an optical in?

Option 1: link sources to irDac and then its analogue out into an Analogue to digital converter to link to Playbar.

Option 2: link sources to irDac then use its digital coax out into a digital coax to optical converter to link to Playbar.

Option 3: give up on the idea as the work arounds will mess up the signals.

Option 4: this is where you come in :)

Thanks in advance for your input.

Our Cambridge Audio DACMagic has coax and optical out but it's pass through only. So that won't help you in any way. I'm sure that's the same with other DAC's.

According to Sonos the Soundbar has native support for 44.1 kHz with additional support foor 48, 32, 24, 22, 16, 11 and 8 kHz. If you were to feed it upsampled sources, the Soundbar would downsample them. I don't think the Playbar is suitable for the things you'd like to try.

Ok got it, you've confirmed my worst fears. So now I have to rethink if the Playbar is too limited and consider other options like a Sonos Connect linked to something more hifi.
