http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YBDb5lyg0H4 In the sun by michael stipe. This should be the version with just him but i couldnt listen to it on the nexus. If its him and anyone else, its one of the five inferior versions.

And i second gnr's sftd. And add since u been gone by a day to remember, and since i dont have you by gnr also. Oh and second gnr l&ld.

Original: Meredith Brooks, around 1998.

I like them both :exmark:

The wife and I think that most Chuck Berry covers are better than Chuck Berry originals

Same for Ralph Mctell

Sorry:

Top of the list

Roll Over Beethoven: The Beatles
Carole: The Rolling Stones
Bye Bye Johnny:The Rolling Stones

Ralph Mctell

From Clare To Here: Nancie Griffiths
Kew Gardens : Mary Hopkin

Emmylou Harris - Coat Of Many Colors

Radiohead - Nobody Does It Better

Nirvana - Man Who Sold The World

Animals - House Of The Rising Sun

Ray Lamontagne/Damien Rice - To Love Somebody

Donovan - Universal Soldier

Paul Weller - I Walk On Gilded Splinters

Fairport Convention - Matty Groves

James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (gets my vote also)

Johnny Cash - I Won't Back Down

Metallica - Tuesday's Gone

...and about a hundred jazz tracks.

Not sure if its better than the original, but Adem's acoustic cover of Aphex Twin's "To Cure a Weakling Child/BoyGirl Song" from the album Takes.

Covers of Bowie songs never seem to work (apart from the Seu Jorge reworkings which aren't technically covers), but here are a couple that are sufficiently different to the orginals:

Peter Gabriel's cover of The Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon)from the album Scratch my Back

A darker, slower version than the original; the lyrics seem to have more meaning appear more threatening.

great memories of Barry Island Downstairs in the Fryers Arms 1976

I enjoy Stevie Nick's version of just like a woman, but wouldn't say it was better. Think it would have to be The Fugees Killing me Softy as my fav cover.

Toots and the Maytals' version of the John Denver classic '(Take me home) Country Roads'.

Country Roads

:bounce:

Matt

Never heard that, but their version of Louie Louie is fantastic, and if you get the chance to see them live, they are awesome.

Not sure if it's already been said as I haven't read the whole thread, but what about Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Born To Run.

Go listen!

No!

Make that 2 no's.

3.

I'd rather have a Tabasco enema than have to listen to that whiney screeching voice any more.

"Who gave a xxxx what Frankie said?"
