"Johnny Was" by Stiff Little Fingers, the version from the live album "Hanx", I love Bob Marley, but this beats his original hands down.

This morning heard Neil Diamonds 'I'm a believer' by a group called Smash Mouth. Never heard of the group before but it is a pretty tasty cover version.

pp, you might know the group better from Shrek... singing allstar ?

I prefered the original songs to all of these covers. Fiona Apple's version of Across the Universe has a really cool video though.

Just a beautiful cover of The Band's "Whispering Pine" from Doris's stunning album.

Didn't actually know it was a cover, so checked out the The Band's original, I prefer Doris's version, but undoubtedly it's bonafide classic song which is well worth a listen.

I couldn't think of anything until I heard the original version of Blinded By The Light by Bruce Springsteen last week. Now I don't mind a bit of Springsteen, but that's utter dross. I do hope if/when he ever sings it live he sings it like Chris Thompson.

Whereas his 'Because the Night' has much to commend it, along with the Patti Smith and 10,000 Maniacs versions. I personally prefer the Maniacs'

Bruce Springsteen – Because The Night

Patti Smith Group – Because the Night

10,000 Maniacs – Because The Night [MTV Unplugged Version]

Because the night, I like the Patti Smith version.

My favourite cover is All along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, even Bob Dylan did that version at some of his concerts.

Thanks for the one about Blinded by the Light had forgotten that was Bruce Springsteen song.

My favourite breakbeat act Hybrid recently released a cover of 'Enjoy the Silence'. Its a very close run thing! I love the Depeche Mode original, but this is an excellent cover. I love a cover when the new artist moves the track in to a different genre and puts a very distinctive stamp on it. This is very much a Hybrid track :) 3:30 to 4:30 is absolutely exquisite on the Hybrid cover, but I think overall the vocal is not good enough for the quality of music. Overall I would say Depeche Mode retain the crown, but if it was down to that 1 minute section Hybrid would win :)
