Hi

Was playing around tonight with my speakers, so one of my speakers is in a corner, around 20" away.

This speaker sounds more "bassy" compared to the other.

Would the wall be affecting the bass?

Speakers are B&W 685 so forward firing ports and a NAD 320BEE amp.

Yup, in general if youstick a speaker in a corner it will sound more bassy...but by how much will depend on the speaker itself and how the designer intended for it to be placed. There some speakers that are in facat designed to be placed in corners and do not sound right if given more room to breated then they were designed to use.

Corners will result in more, and looser, bass. Despite the front port, the 685s like quite a bit of space (e.g. 30cm from the rear wall, as mentioned) and some solid stands, otherwise they are prone to booming.

I would say that some booming could come from side wall but it is more likely that back wall is making this boom.

I had 685 on tv cabinet and had big issues with booming; few sets of speakers later I learnt that min 30cm from back wall is mandatory (and speakers stands if you want full potential out of speakers).

How close to back wall do you have them?

Thanks

They used to be on stands, but space doesn't allow at the moment. They are some polystyrene to help. They are only 2-3" at best away from the rear wall and the walls are paper thin on both rear and side wall.

It sounded like the amp/speaker wasn't working correctly when I was listening to the speaker next to the wall and the other speaker which is "free" it had more kick to the bass, but goes this is due to the wall?

Many thanks for people's input!!

U could try a rockwool board behind the speakers. See my sig for the idea. I can't really guarantee the effects but to try for just a few quid may be worth a try?

I used to have some canvas pictures with the insides having foam, put them behind the speakers. But that was at my parents in my bedroom, now I have my own place, need to make it look alittle more subtle.
