Nothing to do with that. Contrast should be set as high as you can without whites 'bleeding' into one another (And without getting too technical, without it changing the way it displays colours, but we'll not get into that)

If you have a THX dvd then you can use the THX menu to set brighntess and contrast. Personally I use a special image from another site to set them up.
