Consensus on squeezebox classic onboard DAC versus CA Dacmagic ?

I have seen varying user reports of the advantages of adding a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic external DAC to the Squeezebox classic. Quite a few people say it makes a bigt improvement but a few others say they did a-b comparisons and returned the Dacmagic because it didn't make that much difference. Has any consensus emerged on this as I recently bought a squeezebox classic and feel it lacks punch and clariy compared to my Arcam CD 73 CD player ?

i use a DAC Magic with mine.

try it and if no change you can always return it.

I can honestly say that just using the SB on its own without an off board dac is disappointing.

I cant comment on whether the Dacmagic improves the sound, or not, but I do know my Theta brings it up to a sonic level wher you are hard pressed to detect it from a quality (£1200) cdp.

Why not try a Beresford, a lot of other folk on a different forum swear by the combination!

Just added a Dacmagic to my SB3 classic and it really imrpoves the sound in a big way
