Connecting an Ipod to a Denon DM37 DAB

I recently purchased the Denon system above, but have not yet purchased the ipod dock that goes with it.

I was wondering if there would be any difference in sound quality between using the dock and just an AUX cable?

I know that the advantage with the dock is being able to control the ipod through the stereo but wondered if there were any other advantages to it?

Shouldn't be any degradation in sound unless you use a really bad cable to connect it. In fact, if you use something like the Russ Andrews GQ-24, this could actually improve sound quality over the dock.

EDIT - oh, the other advantage would be the dock probably charges the iPod at the same time, whereas just using a cable wouldn't.
