I've always chosen black for my hifi components due its elegance and timeless styling. I've seen some pieces in silver or especially white that also look very nice. I almost bought a demo Hegel H190 in white because it was a good deal but I also loved the color. With white and silver I always feel like the contrast with the logos and led displays are very appealing. My main issue with the brighter colors is that I've always felt like they would show up dust or dirt easy or maybe even show scuffs easier than black, Even though I've never owned them. So I have no direct experience. What colors do you guys prefer?

I was waiting for the usual pedant to advise that black is not a colour
(that's before the color / colour debate ).

My hi-fi components have variously been silver, grey, 'champagne' gold, black, in full sized and half sized casework.
A visual match looks nice, but I've never had that.

I can say that non-black does not show the dust any more than black.
(Mind you dust doesn't get much of a look in with me.....dusty components need banning).

Black definitely shows dust more than silver or white. I quite like silver or the Marantz silver-gold, rather than a row of black boxes.

However, finishes are more subjective even than sounds, so just choose what you like. For resale value, I’m not sure that bright primary colours are an easy sell, but for fun a red turntable or amp fascia is appealing to me!

My favourite is two-tone black and silver or grey, or a titanium type finish, as Denon used on their Anniversary models.

You're right about the dust. I find it accumulates fast on my system. I may add an air purifier to that room to knock it down a bit. I guess I was more referring to dirt from hands on the volume knobs, etc, but if we use remote controls this issue could be avoided for the most part. Good points.

I prefer black but I am not too fussed as long as the components match. I could not have, for example, a black amp and a silver cd player.

(I also stick to matching components from the same brand but that's another thread 😊).

It's really subjective, choice of colour for me should always be secondary to price.
To answer your question, piano black has a tendency to collect dust but it looks crazy nice.
Natural wood can be stylish also. 😄

I would agree. I know it has the same innards but I waited a long time to find a silver version of my amp. The black looked dreadful.....
That said all other kit is black, essentially Tom Evans doesn't do a colour opinion.

If they asked me the glass half full or half empty question in an interview (I HATE that question).
I'd tell them that all I could say for sure, is that the glass appears to be at half capacity.
(And I'd be glad not to get the job 😆)

Some colour theory purists don't consider white or black a colour because it can't be made from the three primary colours (Red, Blue and Yellow), and it represents the absence of hue.

I learned my RGB primary colours by mixing in my stage lighting days - you say subtractive, I say additive 👍

The pessimist will say is half empty
The engineer will say the glass is two times bigger than needed
The realist will order a new one as it will be empty pretty soon

Oh you'd hate mine😂😂 a right miss match. Champagne Yamaha AV receiver. Black Blu-ray player. Black Denon CEOL RCD-N7 for CD playing duties (used to be in the dining room as stand alone system) silver TEAC Reference 300 cassette deck (rest of the Reference 300 stored in the cellar). Black Tascam minidisk recorder, black Rega Planar 3.
If I had the funds I would prefer all the same colour.
At least my dining room hifi is all the same colour silver Denon DRA-F101 mini separates.
