Excellent Andy,

The only thing that I worry about is disconnecting the connections from the Exact - worried that I might snap them.

I still dont know if I should go for it as nothing wrong with my Exact but I like the option that you can replace the stylus on the Concept - is that right Andy?

Yes but not in situ, usally cart exchange from what I've read, same as the Regas tip replacement.

So if you were looking for easy replacement go for Goldring or similar.

Enjoy the Exact until it wears out.

Enjoying the Concept tho, but it replaced the Elys 2 not an Exact, you may not hear a difference.

This is the problem with cartridges not many places will demo.

Good stuff. So it's better than the Elys but no better, yet, than the Exact. Sounds about right.

Yep on my 4th album sounding better all the time. More detail coming out soundstage opening up even more.

Never heard an Exact so couldn't say if better or worse.

I think the Elys 2 & Exact are pretty close - closer than the price dictates

But the only to find out is to do A/B comaprison which would be quite diffucult

The question is would the Concept MM sound better than an Exact on an RP6 - only way is to try it

I could probably get £120 for the Exact on eBay, so wouldnt really cost much to change to the Concept MM - still very tempted!

How long have I been preaching the virtues of ClearAudio carts? Does anyone listen? no.

I did :bounce:

Over most cart threads in the past two years I've banged on about their strengths.

Okay... I spent the whole morning at the Rega dealer (could've been afternoon - it was six years), he connected up a Ortofon (can't remember the model ) costing about £100, which had a slight uplift compred to the Ortofon fitted with the TT. Thereafter, he switched to the ClearAudio (£110) and it was clearly audible the clarity had improved, subtle detail and insight was fairly immediate. The bass, although not lean, was very taut which highlighted the midrange a little more. Overall well worth spending the £70 over the budget Ortofon.

Also pointed out when I had the Rega dac on home trial the same dealer, who's still a Clear Audio cart supplier, said the Classic Wood wouldn't have a problem if fixed to a RP6, easily as good as the Exact, possibly better if you like the sound. Remember I was hearing all these improvements from my £200 Xpression TT.

This is a very exclusive club.

It's a slightly different cart to classic, virtually the same spec tho and lighter than the ally version by 1.6gms

Looking on there website they don't show the classic anymore but they are still available elsewhere.

Channel balance (1kHz): ≤ 2 dB

Tracking ability: 80 µm

Tracking ability

(recommended 1,8 -2,6 g): 2.0 gram

Coil impedance (1kHz): 0.66 kΩ

Coil inductance: 0.42 H

Load resistance: 47 kΩ

Concept

Think it must be a direct replacement for the Classic Wood.

There's two components I wouldn't contemplate changing in the short/medium term: My amp and the Classic Wood cart. Can imagine it sounding equally impressive on a Gyro as well as a budget Pro-ject.

Well I've been playing it virtually all day and it sounds fantastic compared to the elys already very happy
