Quick brief, currently using an ipod touch 2nd generation via a Cambridge Audio ID50 dock I have been doing some reading and the ipod 5th generation is the best sounding.

Can anybody confirm a change in sound, as they are using Cirrus chips and Wolfson chips.Cirrus chip means a sharp crisp sound, yet the Wolfston is a smoother warmer sound. Can anybody put any input I to this? Thanks Luke

mmmmmm think its the bits inbetween the DAC and the Analogue outputs that are responsible for the change in presentation

I've owned 4 iPods and I can absolutely state the current Classic is a dog - by far the worst sounding iPod. And indeed Apple changed from Wolfson to the inferior Cirrus to cut costs.

not sure the cirrus chip is the souce of ipod classic sound quality as my ipod touch 2nd gen which also use the cirrus chip sounds better than my 5th gen ipod and the 1st gen ipod touch with both use the wolfston.
