hi all

i have just bought some of the above cable from richer sounds, and have a few questions:

should the cable have any kind of branding on it? mine does not. the photos i see of it online all have the chord name written on the side in black, such as this:

http://www.hifi4less.com/product.php/1361/chord-silver-screen-speaker-cable-per-metre

also, all of the photos of the cable online seem to show the cable with an extra bit of black something over where the outer white/silver sleeve ends, such as this:

http://www.grahams.co.uk/hifi/accessories/chord-carnival-silverscreen.html

is it possible to buy these little black bits? it would tidy up where i cut the cables a bit :)

thanks

I've hopefully got some arriving tomorrow so I can let you know then. Ordered mine from hificables.

The black and red stuff on the end is heatshrink, you can get it from fleabay pretty cheap. just warm it up with an heatgun and it shrinks on to your cable.

Rubber sleeve's, as these, you may need a tool to fit them, but these are some, prob need a 6mm max type for your cable...

All Chord speaker cables I've ever had have had the name and make written on the side in either black or silver

I remember looking at the silverscreen in audio-t last year, i dont think it has any name print on it, i think that pic on your link is for illustration purposes only...

Im 99% sure its perfectly clear all the way down the cable!!!!

If you buy a pack of rubber sleeves and a expandable rubber sleeving tool (about £7),you'll have them for life! lol

thanks for the replies. i got the cable from richer sounds so not too fussed about the lack of branding/company name on the cable.

thanks reggaedave for your suggestion. i think i will use some kind of sleeve at some point, want to keep these cables for life so if it makes them look that little bit better then it's worth it :)

cheers

I had that cable once and mine had the chord company branded on it , not just for branding purposes but for directionality purposes aswell.

Have a look at the Chord website. Nearly at the bottom where it shows you how to terminate.

1. Cut cable to correct length. NB - The signal direction flows with the text

http://www.chord.co.uk/products.php?pg=140&phpMyAdmin=H%2CKFxwyL5UycE7miJqts4M28nF4&phpMyAdmin=1f49bfd3cbdaa53c1e4262029d36fe8d

hmm the chord website does imply that it should have text along the cable. should i go ask richersounds tomorrow about this maybe?

it also sais this: Fit heatshrink sleeve as shown. A special, low temperature heatshrink sleeve is available from your cable supplier. This can be shrunk into place using a domestic hair-dryer.'' so maybe richer sounds will have some of these sleeves for me to use :)

I would take it back and get 2 lengths with the chord company branded on it, I would also have the sleeves heatshrunk on as well.

my dealer terminated mine with chord banana's and heatshrunk the sleeves on while i waited.

when you connect it all up make sure the chord company name is running with the flow of the music for directionality.

1. Sorry richer sounds don't stock heatshrink mate.

2 The silverscreen isn't a twisted pair cable, its the silver foil braiding they are on about here.

3. To my knowledge, if you look at it, the foil (that you can see under the finish coating), should be going clockwise toward's you.

so if you hold an end in you hand, and you think you can see the braiding wrapped clockwise towards you, it will be right. The red will be on your left, and the black on your right. You have the speaker end in your hand.

4. Richer sound's will help you confirm this, directional is only to do with any "clockwise" motion involved, e.g within the core's,pair's or sheilding!....

Change of subject but just read this on a forum, while trying to find some info on Directional cabling, made me LOL....

" when i was about 15 i went to my local 'audiophile' shop to buy some cable for my hifi as it was the closest place and got talked into paying something like 3 quid a metre for that gold directional stuff, said id hear the difference!

same guy who told me minidisc was the way foward and that cd's only had another year till they stopped making em so i bought a portable one with my paperound money id save for time!

guy ripped me off propa!"

Just had butchers at my SilverScreen and Chord is not mentioned anywhere.

I have the same cable bought online from elsewhere. Mine does have writing on the cable BUT its hard to see as its gold lettering on the white/silver cable, and not in black as shown on your linked photo. Took me a while to spot it just now its so hard to see!

The lettering as others have said is in gold/bronze and is very faint - I could imagine it fading until it was practically invisible.
