Thanks

Andy Grange:Are you judging the list on the quality of the movie itself, or the transfer? Or both?Well "I Robot" is on the list so it cannot be the quality of the movie

have to say 2001 and The Thing are excellent transfers and films - should definately be ahead of the majority in the list

havent seen Moon yet but have heard great things about it

noones gonna agree with me but i think The Fountain is a great sci-fi flick and a decent transfer

Main emphasis is on the technical quality of the picture and sound.

S'funny, I thought 2001 was near the top of the list every other time you've done this kind of thing?

2001.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (30th anniversary edition).

Both should've been on the list but then it would've been a top twelve so you have to draw a line somewhere....besides the top ten list i totally agree with and the Star Trek bluray is brilliant, a total must buy!

As a footnote:

Funniest SciFi film - "Morons from outer space"
Worst SciFi film - "Starcrash"
Strangest SciFi film - "Howard the duck"

Most underrated SciFi film - "The man who fell to Earth"

Is it just me or does John Duncan look like Valerie Singleton?

Andy Clough:Have to say I didn't get on with Knowing at all. Nicolas Cage just can't act.

but you said was about the transfer picture and sound not quality of movie or personal dislike - are we to believe some products when reviewed could be treated same way ie don't like that manufacturer????

Slippery slope!

But Andy didn't write the list. The team wrote the list. Like the team write the reviews, so an individual's opinion doesn't hold sway....(Plus products are reviewed purely on a performance-per-pound basis; there's not the same issues as with music/movies).

Personally I enjoyed Knowing apart from the last @30 minutes, which were daft. Awesome Blu-ray in terms of quality, too.

Andy Grange:Yeah, isn't the plane scene in Knowing meant to be one of the best scenes on any blu-ray? Surprised that's been left off the list.
I think the issue here is genre-definition. This list is from the Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray, which has these different categories:

Sci-fi

Thriller

Kids

Horror/Cult

Drama

TV Shows

Comedy

War

Western

Action

Classics

So, Wall-E comes in the Kids line-up; The Things comes in Horror/Cult; Battlestar Galatica in TV shows; Iron Man in action, etc, etc.

We'll be bringing you more of those lists to discuss and debate between now and Xmas. Or the Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray is still on sale in WHSmith and other good newsagents
