Hi

I am looking for a new centre, the obvious choice is an MA BX but the shelf I am putting it on is too small. I need a depth of 160mm or less. I have noticed the KEF slim centres on Richer sounds, does anyone have any experiences or advice?

Thanks

Paul

The centre from the monitor audio bx range would seem sensible.
The OP wants slimmer speaker.

It is recommended you stick to the same manufacturer for tonal match. Look at Radius 200.

Sure, he says that NOW, but when I replied to him the message was blank, just the subject line and his signature, didn't have a great deal to work with.

When you say "shelf", is this in an AV rack or cabinet below your TV? If it's just a shelf, could you move it? If you have a centre speaker that's much smaller than your main left & right channels AND you site it fairly low down, I think your centre might struggle somewhat.

If you really must do this, try using Auralex Mopads, which are angled foam wedges. They will help prevent vibrations from the shelf, but also angle the speaker upwards. Wherever you end up placing your centre speaker, ideally you want to be aiming the tweeter toward your ear level.

Alternatively, could you consider wall-mounting a BX centre? Using the same centre as your other channels will produce much better results if at all possible. It's more important to get the centre right than the rears because so much of a typical surround mix emanates from the centre channel.
