Question CD player with gapless playback

I was looking for a combined CD/DAB/Bluetooth/Speaker for my kitchen - nothing fancy - and bought a "SHARP - Tokyo XL-B720D" for just over £100.

I was amazed and disappointed to run into the gapless-playback-no-longer-standard issue.

I've listened to CDs for decades on many, many players but have never encountered this issue until now. A fair few of my CDs are negatively impacted by this limitation.

Most CDP online specifications omit information as to whether gapless playback is supported.

Can anyone recommend some CDPs to meet my requirement (combined CD/DAB/Bluetooth/Speaker with gapless playback)? I'm happy to pay more than the one I bought, but was still looking for something small and not too pricey.

I believe it's down to the transports they tend to use now. Nobody really makes dedicated CD transports anymore.

It's interesting when shills reviewers on Youtube promoting reviewing the SMSL PL100 CD player get caught out by it not playing CD gapless.

The responses follow a similar pattern;

"I don't have any gapless CD's to test on it"

Followed by

"Is gapless a requirement of the Red Book Standard"?

then,

"Why do you even need gapless playback?"

concluding with,

"It does play gapless if you don't use the skip track, fast forward, or pause options during playback, which of course I don't QED you won't need to ever either"
