Can I use an iPod touch as remote for AV amp, cd player etc?

I'm considering purchasing an iPod touch. Does anyone know if it can be used as a universal remote?

nope. it only controls some aplications not "boxes"

so you can control "iTunes" and "squeeze center" and a few others.

I don't think you have misunderstood that but at the bottom it does make a note that you do need to buy extra equipment on top of you iTunes purchase which costs another £100.
