Can anyone recommend some second hand speakers for £1000?

Hi
I'm looking to upgrade my b&w cm1s for some "keepers" to match my Cyrus dac-xp + psxr and xpower. My budget is £1000 tops and I like a warm detailed sound with no edginess/harshness. The B&w cm1s are just about acceptable in this regard (I use atlas hyper 2.0 speaker cable) but I think my Cyrus kit deserves much more. I much prefer second hand as you get so much more for your money! Standmounts or floorstanders (but have to be reasonably compact) will do! I listen to most things as well!
Cheers
Matt

The best speakers in terms of synergy for Cyrus is either Dynaudio or Spendors. There are some Spendor A5 on fleebay at the mo. They may be worth checking out.

If you could get hold of some Dynaudio Audience 52SEs (occasionally crop up on ebay) they would fit the bill perfectly.

with that budget maybe you could snag some dyn contour 1.4. brilliant speakers, if you have room to position properly.

Can give my total recommendation to Eclipses! But they are an absolute MUST audition before buy!! Other than that used b&w 805S if you are lucky will be in your price range (not inc stands) or save your self a money and look for Neat Motive 2 if you are after a small tidy good sounding floorstander. Other than that i agree with the suggestions of A5s used. Good luck

Last November I picked up a pair of ProAC Studio 140 Mark 1 speakers as ex-demo for just over a grand (RRP 1450) on Fleabay. My system is all Cyrus (CD-XTSE Mark 1 feeding 2009 DAC-X feeding Pre-VS2 feeding twin 8-Powers running in dual mono mode - all with PSX-R's). The Mark 2 Studio 140s hit the stores in the New Year, but I, for one, can't see much benefit in upgrading, being very happy with what I've got. The ProAC Studio 140's suit the Cyrus gear WAY better than the Mordaunt Short Mezzo 6's they replaced, with far more "oomph" and dynamics at moderate volumes.

Point being, look around for some ex-demo speakers and you could bag a far better deal than buying used blind off the internerd.

Hi - thanks for all the replies and suggestions! Will I notice a significant improvement compared to the cm1s? Also I have too seen the a5s on eBay and they have not sold twice in a row now - is the price too high (899)? Seems quite good to me?!
Cheers

Remember the speakers prolly weigh in at maybe 20 kg each, so that's a lot of shipping, whoever you use. See if the seller will part for the pair at that price with you picking up or even better shipping included.

I've noticed those A5s at that price for a while now too. I think they may have even sold and then reappeared straight away, not uncommon on ebay due to timewasters. At that price they're a steal and a highly capable pair of speakers for the money. Expect a natural, smooth sound with more get up and go than the S5e. I've been tempted to buy them just so that I can choose whether to keep the SA1s or A5s. I won't though

If I were you, it'd be worth a drive to Lintone Audio to audition them.

I'll edit this post and drop all references to them if you're serious about them

dim_span:B&W 801 speakers .... 25 minutes till auction end

oh well, someone got a bargain .... they sold for £630 ....

You do need to audition. Cyrus are not known for being warm at all, therefore if you like that kind of sound you will have to get some very warm ones to compensate. Not sure about Neat in this instance.
