I would argue for a full refund. When i returned my TV they told me the same thing. I was ready to pay for it as the box was disposed of at the time (and they infomred me they would have to sell it unboxed). Seems a little harsh, considering I was told something totally different. Of course I assume you have the box etc?

I'm not sure if Richersounds is a fanchise, and if they are, then they will all have the same returns policy for in store purchases, meaning they should be consistant.

If they refuse to give you the full refund ask to see the returns policy, if it talks about the 15% handling charge then you are pretty much snookered. of course you could argue that as a consumer you should be made aware of the policy upon purchase of your item and I know for a fact the receipt does not mention this, as I have one right here. It can be tricky as they are not obliged to do anything as something people believe.

Still, be polite and I am sure they will give you the refund entirely.

I've kept everything neat and tidy so I could return it if needed.

After demoing the 751 in store I asked about returning it if I didn't like it in my system and was told about a restocking fee of 10% but he said he would do something about that if I returned it within the 7 days.

I haven't looked at the actual printed receipt but they stapled it to an extra sheet which states there may be a handling fee depending on the condition of the item when returned or words to that effect.

I'm giving it one last go tonight anyway. If I can't get on with it I'll call them again and ask to speak to the person who dealt with me before I take it back. He was a nice chap!

I would have preferred to take home a demo version to test first but it was the last one they had.

I'm sure it will be fine.

Certainly deal with that person again if you go back, at least he will remember, or have a vague recollection. I have always liked the Richersounds staff too, always helpful, but this 10% means that we need to buy and be sure to keep it.

Give it another as you say and let us know :) Come what may, that still a heck of a player.

I decided to keep the 751BD.

Its not perfect for what I want but it is very close. DVD's and Blu-ray's look and sound good. CD audio is mostly good except for the bass.

Some of my CD's skipped with some songs with the CD7Q but the 751BD has played every disc I've thrown at it with no skipping and no artefacts on the screen from Blu-ray or DVD so far.

To get exactly what I want I will need to spend more money or get separate BD player/DAC, neither of which I want to do. Even then something else might not be right & could have other issues!

I'm going to sell all my unneeded kit to cover the cost of the 751BD. I might look at spending any left over on a sub or new speakers. I might even give the Spendor SA1's another go before selling them!

With regard to the bass, it seems to be missing the lowest frequencies. Things like bass guitar can be followed with ease but drums seem almost non-existant. There is almost no impact to the bass. It could be another part of my system causing it but the CD7Q had more impact. Maybe it will 'run in' but I doubt it.

The audio seems to be getting better the more I use the 751BD.

I haven't been able to listen much this week but it sounded good today.

A few club tunes and Guns n Roses sounded better, more impact from the bass.

I was able to put a few CD's on and just play them – I often swap CD's out for favourite tracks, didn't need to, just enjoyed the music!

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this thread until now - I'm a happy 751 user and I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyment from it. Fenner: Tip - be sure to (re) set-up your TV using a calibration disc, and use the fine picture adjustment on the 751 to do a more accurate job than your TV can - especially with the colours if you can get hold of the relevant colour viewing filters, and also tweak up the sharpness by a couple of notches on the 751 - makes an amazing difference to the picture.

Feel free to disregard this opinion but I think the issue with the sound may be more of a difference in presentation between your old CDP and the 751 rather than things being better or worse, and you'll grow accustomed to it over time. I have tried many times to tell the difference between mine connected to the rest of my system via analogue versus digital and for the life of me I can't, which suggests to me that the DAC and the analogue parts of the player must be pretty damn good.

Thanks Dan.

I have a calibration disc, Digital Video Essentials HD Basics.

I've used it before when setting up the PC to TV. I gave it a quick go when I first got the 751BD. I'm quite happy with the picture as is but will spend a bit more time one day doing a more thorough job.

I think my TV is quite good with its settings but will give a go using the 751BD as well to see if it can be even better.

I think you might be right about the audio. I'm beginning to enjoy it more now.

I plan on getting new speakers next week that should work better with the Quad amps so that should improve things further.

I had the CA 751BD

Not impressed with the Audio. It wasnt bad but it did appear to lack the lowest bass. I noticed in settings it always had a crossover and the lowest setting was 40 or 60.... cant remember. But there was no way to just shut it off. Hard to say becuas that menu is so 1994.

Picture was nice and sound was good just not great. But I am also not a Cambridge fan. I find their stuff really bright. Its like listening to a dentist drill. My Marantz CD player blew it out of the water.

What blew the 751 for me was the menu and network issues. Man it could take 20 mintues to connect to the network and ALWAYS invloved backing out to main menu and back as it locked up every time. I could literally burn a disc in the time it took the CA to connect to the network. Cambridge didnt respond to support requests. Not once.
