How should I connect my fairly old NTL cable box, made by Samsung, SMT-2100C, to my Onkyo 705. Prior to having the new amp, it was connected to the tv via scart. It lacks outputs having only rf or scart. Can I get a Scart to some other set of cables, possibly component, the user menu offer either RGB or Component out. I want to maximise sound and picture quality. This will be a temporary fix as I get around to a V+ box for the system

The old ntl box carries its sound output via scart. You can buy a scart lead which terminates at the amp end with two audio plugs-this will split the sound from the picture. So connect the scart to your tv,and the audio plugs into the amp, assuming they are close enoigh to do so,otherwise you might need to add a female/male extension to the audio leads.
The sound will only be stereo but should sound better than the tv speakers
