Buying stuff from Currys

You all probably know this but if your buying a tele from Currys (this also applies to a lot of other stuff too) DON'T pay the price on the shelf-ask what their internet price is and they should match that. I bought a sony... w2000 40" tv and saved a few hundred. They will even check the internet price for you while you are in the store (if you ask). The shop assistant said that many people don't bother to check if they can get it cheaper. I'm sure that dosn't apply to you!

They dont always price match their own website - some of the "premium" stauff they sell or new kit just out has web exclusive pricing that the local shops are not allowed to match

I rarely buy anything from currys, but PC World are a bit similar, sometimes they match the web price sometines they won't. I bought a printer from them last year and they refused to match the web price, so whilst still talking to the store assistant I phoned a friend, got him to order it for me online and chose collect from store, gave the assistant the reference number and bought it at the web price.

Done a similar thing somewhere like Currys last year with a washing machine. The assistant actually ordered it on the web for me while i waited in the store, so I could have it at the web price!

For those who don't already know Curry's, PCWorld, The Link, and now I think the Tech Guys, are all part of the Dixons Stores Group. You'll find that their prices and quality of service are much the same across the board. Don't forget to haggle with them though - their mark-ups are huge - and their buying prices are lower than anybody elses, too!

I worked for them once, so will reserve further comment. Needless to say I haven't spent any money with them since.

For TV's and the like I find the large IT/computer hardware specialists are pretty good on price. Current 26" Samsung TV came from www.dabs.com. They weren't the cheapest, but I'd used them so many times in the past for computer gear, I was happy use them again.
