Hi Guys,

I wondered if someone could please give me some buying advice as I am looking to upgrade my old Panasonic TH37PE50B (1080i, no HDMI), my requirements are as follows:

Budget: £1200
Size: 46" - 50"
Uses: SKY HD, Blueray and PS3 Gaming
Other: Not bothered about sound / speakers. Connectivity is quite important.

I have been looking at both the Samsung UE46B8000 and SHARP AQUOS LC46LE700E. I cannot make up my mind, please help!

Thanks,
Steve

I was in the same sort of position as yourself and have finally (its been 2yrs) taken the plunge. I've got a samsung 46inch 7000 seris arriving tomorrow. Getting from currys with a stand and blu ray thrown in for 1800 quid.

Managed to get the remote from the sales chap to mess about with the settings (he wasn't overly happy about giving it to me) and I must say the picture is outstanding. I was extremely impressed. Like I say its taken my about 2 yrs to make the jump from my CRT to a telly that I felt could give atleast a reasonable picture. Not sure if its worth the premium for the 8000 seris but have a look at them side by side.

All I can say is thank goodness for interest free credit and tomoorow can't come fast enough

Thanks for all your help. I have now seen the Panasonic TX-P50V10 and now I am even more confused. Didn't think buying a new TV would be so much of a nightmare!!

I know what you mean. Personally I'd go for the samsung but at the end of the day its up to you and your eyes. Not sure if I'd pay the premium for the 8000 over the 7000 though. I couldn't see any real difference in picture quality. The sammy also looks the nuts as well!! Sorry I can' t give more constructive advice but I'm turning into a bit of a samsung machine at the mo, TV, mobile phone etc.

Let us know what you end up choosing and why

Thanks Subseatu. (And everyone else of course)

After reading reviews and spending some time on this forum I have narrowed down my choices to these 2 TV's but I need to help deciding which one to get please:

Panasonic TXP50V10B
SAMSUNG UE46B8000

The Panasonic is £1299 (inc. 5 year warranty) at House of Fraser and has some very encouraging reviews.

The Samsung is about £1600 but we can claim for the ECO cashback and get £200 off, it also looks amazing.

Price is not really too much of an issue but I was worried the Samsung might suffer with bad input lag and as I play alot of FPS games this could be a real problem.

Shame we can't create a poll on these forums.

Got my 46 inch 7000 sammy yesterday and I'm blown away. After a bit of tinkering I think its amazing. Played call of duty on line and I can now see who shot me (I'm not very good). But we watched the "shoot em up" blue ray via my ps3 using a QED reference (0.75m) hdmi lead. Holy cow, the picture is out of this world. The sense of depth, the 3D nature of the picture...............unbeliveable. The sound is reasonable as well for a room of our size but I'm looking at an amp and speakers next. The sd picture via our virgin box can be a bit ropey but all in all the best money I've spent in a long time. Thank god for interest free credit is all I can say.

For information we sit 2 - 3.5m away from the screen.
