Hello All,

After months of research I had "finally" decided to buy W4500 in 46", and now I see the internet inundated with

complaints about this model of Sony.

What do i do now - I'm really tired !!! what are the odds of anyone recommending Panasonic PZ800 or PZ81 or PZ85 ???

By the way - my decision to buy a W4500 was fuelled by the fact that this tele was rated as "best tele of the year!" by WHFI.

Thanks a lot

For every bad review I've seen, I've also seen people comment on how good the TV is. I was / am in the same boat and had decided to get the W4500. I have one on order at Richer Sounds and should get it on Tuesday.

I was / am concerned by all of the negative reviews, but if there are any clouding issues these can apparently be reduced to negligable levels with the correct setup. No TV is perfect, but for my needs it seems the best priced for what you get.

Plasma's also come with their own baggage, but this might not affect you depending on your circumstance:

Panasonic Plasma's - Great HD Picture, Great Blacks, Great SD Picture, No Clouding, No Backlight Bleed, No Input Lag - But, high risk of Image Retention / Burn if you play a lot of console games or if you intend to plug in your PC.

My friend had a visible ghosting of Daniel Craig on his Panasonic for about 3 weeks... He paused Casino Royale and fell asleep for a couple of hours. A bit of backlight bleed seems a minor issue compared to a possible ruined TV. Luckily it cleared up, but this issue is what put me off Plasma's... it was a risk that I definately wasn't prepared to take.

I'm sure if you're carefull though, it wouldn't be an issue.

Hi, I owned a Panasonic plasma (about 3 year old model) and I suffered with image retention with only mild gaming on my xbox 360, it will go away but after a few weeks of non gaming, but as soon as you start gaming again it would come back.

So when it come to replacing my TV I decided I'd go for an LCD especially as the Sony w4500's had won the awards, unfortunately my 46" has the issues reported (see w4500 issues thread) and I am going to the shop tomorrow to exchange it.

Being new to LCD I didn't know what to expect, plus points for the TV are the amazing HD picture it produces, freeview is pretty good and better than I expected with a screen this size, games look terrific and no risk of image retention. Now the bad, the set doesn't seem to be at its best at night what with all the issues of clouding and backlight bleeding, limited view angle unless your sitting direct in front of the set you wont get the best out of it, you get a kind of haze over the screen if even a little off centre.

Sorry if this muddies the water a little, but I am non the wiser after trying both technologies as to which is best as neither are perfect, if I'm not satisfied with the replacement tomorrow if thinking of going the projector route.

I think the simple answer to this is that you'd probably be happy with any of the models you've mentioned.

The Sony just edges it for me personally but you will also get a lot of the Plasma brigade on here recommending Panasonic.

Go to a store like John Lewis and check them out for yourself though as it usually comes down to personal preference in the end.
