Bose Lifestyle 48 and Samsung smart TV set up

I have a Bose lifestyle 48 which has 1 optical input this is used by the Virgin Tivo box, for digital sound on HD.
Any programmes on memory sticks the volume is very low, the TV speakers Samsung smart TV have to be on 100%.
The TV is new and has an optical output, should I be using that optical out to the Bose? I assume that output is for audio?

Yep, TiVo should be hdmi to the TV, optical from TV to Bose.

in the sound menu on the Samsung there will be an option for use external speakers, this will disable the TV speakers and you only use the optical out to the Bose.

All sources for the TV including smart hub and usb will then come out of the bose.
