Hello!! anyone here who can advice me in choosing bluray please.

I am considering the following (new entry most welcome):

*Pioneer BDP-LX52
*Pioneer BDP-320
Sony BDP-S760

Just in case if its important, my existing system include Pioneer Kuro 5090 TV, Onkyo 845 AV Receiver, KEF 3005 5.1 Surround sound system and SKY HD.

* One benifit of having pinoeer is that i can use single remote for my tv and player.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I own a Pioneer BDP-LX52 and must say it is awesome! the picture is brilliant and the sound output too as it has onboard HD decoding. The Pioneer is my 4th Blu Ray player, ive owned Panasonic for the last 3 blu ray players and fancied a change and also wanted a higher end player, when What Hi-Fi reviewed the BDP-320, i was tempted to change but then the BDP-LX52 was reviewed and i had to have one, so i plunged and bought one... i have never been dissapointed from the day i hooked it up, i can tell the difference from a mile off from my previous product of the year Panasonic DMP-BD55, the picture looks natural and very detailed, plus the sound was the biggest difference.. i had to turn my volume down on my Yamaha sound bar as it was very loud, clear and powerful.

So in regards to your question, i think you should go with the Pioneer and make use of the Kuro link aswell as having a top product! I think the Sony has won its awards as its allot cheaper than a BDP-LX52 and is a all rounder that does everything you want it to do but also wont hurt your pockets.

Regards> M

If you get a demo of the 2 then it will be better. then you can decide. I haven't demoed both side by side so I am just voicing my opinion.

I was going to add the Denon DVD-2500BT but every time I get a chance to here a demo this thing always has some issue. I would say that when it is working it sounds very good and the picture is very nice to. but it isn't very fast and it isn't profile 2.0 either. great deals on them right now.

As you suggested a Pioneer would suit your TV setup

Pioneer LX 52 would be my choice above a 320 also

I would suggest trying a Pioneer LX71 which have now come down to a reasonable price

You would need to demo back to back

I am sure the Sony is excellent as well if you didnt mind an extra remote in your system

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

As suggested, I will see the demo and will then decide.

Also, my friend, who lives in USA, has suggested me to buy OPPO -BDP 83 which is region free. This might be future proof for me as I am expecting boolywood (Indian) movies on bluray. But I am not sure if it can compete with Pioneer in terms of picture quality....probably not?...but if its not a huge difference then its good to have region free bluray. any suggestion please ?

BOO

Sound like the Sony 760, because of sound quality on the pioneer bdp-lx52.

You will have to be quick if you want the pioneer 71 it's going faster than cup cakes at a pop party.

Do you mean sound quality is better in Sony 760?

Pioneer 71 came down in price but I have heard from someone that it takes too long to load movie and its firmware can not be upgraded at all as it doesn't have internet connection.

No the sound quality on the pioneer bdp-lx52 is very weak and tinny and very slim build.

The Sony 760 is better.

The pioneer 71 takes just as long as the 52 in home cinema choice magazine for this month they have they stats on how long the 52 takes. And there is hardly any difference.

The 71/08 is the best player on the market for sound, build, picture and reliability easily upto £1,000.

I have had the 71 for well over a year and by the time I have turned it on, got my disc put it in and sat down the pioneer it is good to go.

Profile 2 does not mean quicker.

Hope this helps, this is from someone who has demo both and has an impartial view. becasue it does not bother me which one is better.

as far as firmware upgrades go you just download it from there website onto a disc.

But don't do it unless you have to. Must people have never used the firmware updates. This machine is realiable.

Pioneer LX 71 can be got for £360.00 online , must be worth a demo against a LX 52 at £495.00

I am sure its firmware can be upgraded without internet access the same as any other player without ethernet or wireless i.e. Denon 2500 BT and many others so that should not be a concern.

For me performance is always more important than loading times

I have not heard any players other than the Denon 2500 and a Pioneer LX 320 so my view is just a suggestion to have a back to back or preferably home Demo with the ones you fancy

The firmware updates do need to be done not that often but movies like Crank2 required a firmware update. at least here in north America. I'm not sure about here in UK/Europe.

It really isn't that big a deal to update it. Grab a cd burn the firmware to disk and install in the player. Then you follow the instructions on the player to install. or just use the Ethernet port if it is close.

another advantage the 760 has is you can do the update via Wifi. not a big issue for me. but it is the future trend.

I ruled out the Pioneer due to load times and a lot of reports about the layer change... Gel can let us know if it is more noticeable I just figured it shouldn't have this problem. I am impartial as I have a Pioneer TV and the Sony Receiver. I just couldn't find a problem with the sony. I understand you would rather have less remotes. I have 4 remotes. not including a cd player It may be time for another

i dont understand why people value the faster loading times on bluray players , 30 seconds , a minute , whats the difference ?? put on the kettle and settle down , its all about pic and sound ..

I think everyone is used to the load times. It is an advantage to have faster load times...I'm not saying it's a deal breaker but it seems the newer players have faster load times.

If I told you the car you have goes 0-60 in 30 sec and is a nice ride. and this other car does 0-60 in 10 sec but has a nice interior and wifi and has an even better ride it all ads to an advantage that is better. forget the fact that you both have to drive 100Km or miles on the highway.

my point is it is an advantage none the less. If you read my other post the Denon 2500 is supposed to be better but every time I get a demo of kit they always have to say sorry for having to eject the disk and clean it or even on my last visit my test cd wouldn't even play. ( know I know this may just be the 3 shops I went too), but If I bought it and this happened to me It's my fault I knew better. maybe they fixed it. but I won't be the test guy.
