Hi guys - not long had my new Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player, but having major isses with the lip-syncing. I have tried the audio adjustment on the player but it just seems to make it worse.

The BD player is connected to a Sony STR-DB1070 Receiver via a coax cable - the same as the previous DVD player was, which had no syncing issues. I have a 40" LCD Sony Bravia TV connected via HDMI, and I dont think this is adding a delay.

Its driving me mad, and the problem doesnt seem so bad with when playing DVDs. Could this be someting to do with the BD player downmixing the HD soundtrack to 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS for the receiver, and therefor causing a delay? In which case how do I overcome this>

Lip Sync is the bain of Home Cinema life

Problem is, I also haven't come across anyone who can really give a definitive solution to this problem

I am waiting for the day to come, having now taken the view that perhaps my emotions got the better of me initially and I prematurely immersed myself into all things HD related, when TV pictures are all transmitted in 1080i so that all HD or full HD Ready displays will show off much better pictures than some of the awful soft 576i SD pcitures we currently receive and that we shall also just be able to plug and play any Blu Ray or DVD Player using good quality BD and DVD transfers and also benefit from 100% simultaneous sound and vision without any hiccups ....if not...... lets all pack up and go home and conserve our money for something which may actually work!

If your screen is hdmi 1.3 compatible, your receiver is and your BD player is and you use only 1.3 hdmi cables, then it should not be a problem.

What's new in the HDMI 1.3 Specification?

Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.

Fine..accept that if everything is 1.3 HDMI connected shouldn't be a problem...but there are probably hundreds of thousands of set ups out there, like mine, that are not

My TV is 1.2

My DVD Player is 1.1

My FREESAT is 1.2a
My PS3 is 1.3

My HDMI cables are all 1.3

I spoken out quite a lot on the subject of lip sync and still feel that may of us have been conned

I understand where you are coming from. It can be a pain on my Sky HD box but I get by. I change the delay on it every now and then. All I was saying is that people need to be aware that all the components need to be 1.3 compatible for auto lip sync to work. All the new BD players and HD audio receivers and screens are. The future is rosey.

The TV is 3 years old so I assume it isnt HDMI 1.3, and BD player is connect to the receiver via COAX so it looks like i'm doomed!! I can only put it down to all the processing the player is doing to the sound and video to output in the different formats. Nightmare, and very distracting - it even seems tio change throughtout one film.

My Sony BDP-S300 had a lot of lip-sync problems. almost all my blu discs were out of sync, and all by varying amounts. The worst offenders being Golden Compass and Fantastic Four: ROTSS.

Up until recently I was directing the sound through an older reciever with an optical lead. I asked in my local Sony Centre about this and they told me to try switching to LPCM instead of DD or DTS.

The problem was solved immediately. Although my old reciever didn't accept LPCM in anything more than stereo. I have since had to go out and buy a new reciever that does.
