I have been using Opera as my search engine for some time after getting fed up with Google Chrome constantly 'not responding' but now Opera is doing the same fairly regularly. I keep my laptop fairly 'clean' using an external hard-drive for storing everything, and clean out my history regularly.

Can anyone suggest a good, fast search engine I could try or suggest ways to speed up my current Opera set-up please. I'm not very technically savvy so please keep things simple...thanks!

I have used Firefox with Google since ... err ... goodness knows how many years. Never had problems.. (It was Alta Vista and IE before that, but it's too many years ago to remember when I switched.)

Do you mean browser, search engine, or both? On a PC I use either IE and Firefox as the browser with Google as my search engine. On my Mac I use Safari and Firefox. Same search engine. I've never really got on with Google Chrome browsers on either PC or Mac.

Either way, if your computer's suddenly getting really slow accessing the internet, I doubt it has much to do with whichever browser you use, or your search engine.

Sorry Major, I guess I do mean Browser, rather than search engine...told you I wasn't savvy in this stuff !!

Anyway, have you any suggestions as to why i seem to be getting this 'not responding' message so regularly and what can I do to eliminate it ? Thanks

1. Make sure your anti-virus/Malware software is up to date and then do a full scan of your computer.

2. In your browsers tools option go to “Manage Add-Ons” and disable them all.

3. This should hopefully solve the problem of “Not Responding” although you will now find that some features on some sites will not work.

4. When you come across a feature that does not work correctly, re-enable the add-on that is required to allow the feature to work, then after a short space of time you will have your browser working as you want with the minimum amount of add-ons running. (Usually the biggest cause of slow browsing)

Hope this helps

Good advice from Bill, but also, have you any other deices such as tablets and mobiles (even a smart TV) with which you can check the general health of your internet connection? It might not be your computer, or your browsers.
